I'm in between.
Yes, if the player just happened leave just to be a jerk and No, if the reason was er7. If the player has to log out cause his mom grounded him, many logging out would not give a penalty, but just exiting to gh, yeah.

I voted "Yes".
Random Arena is a game of chance; quitting, because one does not like the cards that have been dealt to his side, makes one a bad player (I see an analogy with an immature kid tossing over the board, when he foresees his loss) ... and bad players deserve to be penalised for the hinder they cause to honest players.

I wish they would, but there are plenty of reasons to leave, like a 3vs4 monk battle, pointless and dumb, but if that was the case they could all just resign...

Leaving on your own is most disrespectfull towards those who are teamed up with you, and the reasons one comes up with are purely egocentrical in nature.
As you just mentioned, resigning together is always an option, and in my opinion the only respectfull way to abort.

Punish me all you want, if I get a bad team I am going to ragequit or fake an err7 via pulling out my ethernet cord.

To sanction ragequitters is to protect the decent majority of players.

A perfect example of the kind of immature attitude, that is ruining randomly teamed PvP for many (The timing of your post couldn't be better ).
I'd like to note that for those who truly incur the wrath of the infamous 007, sanction will be as infrequent as a "natural" error=007 happens after one's character has fully loaded onto a map!

To many valid reasons to leave an RA team. I'm not sticking around on
i) - a team with 3 players
ii) - a team with a monk with power shot (or people running waste-of-time builds in general)
iii) - a 2 monk team (and if i'm one of the monks)
iv) - a team with a "tank"
v) - a team with an afk
vi) - a match where one of the opponents has dedicated his build for running around for half an hour

i) then let the other team wipe you.
ii) see i, or just sort something out to ban people from RA if they leave repetively
iii) be a good boy and resign or let the other team wipe you
iv) then you'll probably get wiped anyway
v) same again...
vi) see ii, or just resign
There are many valid reasons... letting your opponents just wipe you or just resigning can solve most. I'm sure if Anet did sort something out for this they'd put clauses in for mishaps to not cause punishments.
RA was fine till they gave it Glad points, now its just a breeding ground for retards who can't play in a proper team against real opponents.

Perhaps they should remove rewards if your whole team quits before the match begins?

Leaving before the door opens = stupid, waiting for the opposing team to leave before the door opens = free balthazar (It was literally raining points last night). Bottom line, rage quitting is self-ownage ^^.
I think it's a hard one though, people cant play forever anyway. People can be sports though, if you plan on leaving, at least finish the match and leave before a new one starts so your teammates can continue on their own with a substitute.
If I see spirit spam and trappers I leave even if I am in TA, I refuse to play against lame crap and guys feeling superior because they are camping spirits.
When I'm in a group with stupid people I never leave, that's mostly a problem that solves itself in 30 seconds, why bother leaving?
When all my team mates leave I start insulting the opposing team before running in and letting them beat me to shreds, mostly good for some nice laughs.

i really dont care. i don't ra anymore - but when i did, i monked my 100 glads. only 1 person ever left my group because i was running a sor build afted it had just been buffed to a shorter cooldown. if people want to leave, let them. if you don't like it, learn to monk.

Personally I've quit one RA match prior to its start ever. And the due to one of my team mates racial slur spamming, so not gonna help that guy win.
Many times I've go out 1 vs 4, I don't care who or what is on my team, I give it a shot.
Yesterday it was myself (Rit) and a Ranger, vs the other 4, we had 2 rage quiters prior to the start, we lasted 10 minutes and killed 2 of them, only to have them rezed and me run out of energy to stop healing the ranger and myself, I had a great time with the battle.
So you get loaded into a bad team, so what, In a minute or less it will be over and you can try again, a majority of RA battles are very short no need to quit. If your time is just too important to waste on a poorly built team for a minute then WTF are you doing playin video games in the first place with that valuable time?
Bottom line, battle are short enough that there is no need to quit, if it begins to take too long the the /resign option needs to be used.
The easiest thing to do is make it impossible to leave until after 1 min. If you notice if a player fails to load and you wipe a team in 30secs you still have to stand there for 30 more to get the win. Just lock that minute in for everyone.

No. I'm not wasting time waiting for the match to start and then waiting to get wiped or convincing my entire team to resign - which they will unlikely do anyway. I'll leave knowing full well that anet won't be stupid enough to implement punishment for leaving.
You talk about resigning like it's an "individual" thing.
There's another one i forgot too actually, which is having some idiot on your own team who does nothing but run around for half an hour.. I'm not waiting for that either
Punishment for leaving is such a bad RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing idea it's not even funny.
