Fixing Leavers
If you've ever played PVP in the Random Arenas for any considerable amount of time, you've invariably encountered the scourge of the areanas -- people who leave before the battle is over. This is done for a variety of reasons; they don't like their team, they're losing, or they just "know they'll lose" against their opponents. Whatever reason is cited, we all still hate it. Battles have been recovered from the brink of defeat, and getting closer to that brink makes the victory all the more stunning, but if someone leaves because they don't like the way things are going, it destroys all hope for a victory. Not just for the leaver, but for everyone else on the team. It ruins the fun for everyone involved, and hurts a lot more than just the person who left. Especially as we enter into a PVP event weekend and see more people just looking to get randomly stuck in awesome teams to farm faction, this is becoming more and more of a problem. In light of this, I would like to suggest a solution.
If someone is DC'ed or there's a connection problem, that shouldn't be penalized. But, if you want to map travel out of a PVP arena, you should have to pay a price, say 200 faction, to Balthazar for disgracing his honor in his arena. This way, people that really do need to leave (like if your water breaks; could happen), then it's not the end of the world to lose 200 faction. But, it's just enough that faction farmers won't pay it every time just to get a better party.
I think, by implementing a system like this, we could greatly increase the reliability and the fun of the PVP arenas for everyone.

/signed I'd agree with that, although I'd like to raise it to like 250-500 per leaving. It p1sses me off when somebody leaves as soon as they load. Im like OMG!!!!. I like the penalty for leavers. I'd also like to add, that you can leave after the match is done(IE: Your team has lost/won and the game announces that) w/o penalty, sometimes players that have won alot are like...I g2g guys cya, sry...etc.

Leavers are annoying, but it's the random arenas. Sometimes you get on a team and you're with people who say "WTF OMFG YOU ARE SUCH A ----ING N00B YOU M0R0N SUXXXXXXOR!" and you can't stand them.
I'm generally annoyed at leavers, but it's the random arena. I'm more annoyed with leeches at Fort Aspenwood than leavers in the random arena.

While I agree with this practice in general, I think that the problem of leavers has extended so far beyond simple "I can't stand my party" that it needs to be penalized.
When it really comes down to it, you have to ask people to accept one extreme or the other. Personally, I'd much rather spend five minutes of my time with complete morons than be utterly handicapped for two and a half out of every three hours of play because someone didn't get randomly inserted into the ideal party build. I mean, it's the RANDOM arena. If you don't like the build of your party, deal with it. That's part of the fun. If you want the optimum four man build, well, that's precisely what the Team Arenas are there for.

What's to stop someone from force quitting gw or f12 + enter for that matter? This wouldn't do much in the long run unless you include everyone that leaves, even the disconnected ones (however unfair it would be).

nobody in my guild likes pvp (OMG JOIN ANOTHER GUILD THEN, no) and when I do pvp it's just a quick random arena fun. leavers are annoying, and I think the faction loss is a good penalty.

suggestion.
I agree with the penelty however also think that the player should be replaced by an npc (exact replica of player same health eg:120 out of 540, energy and skills) this way it would rebalance the game better than just the penelty. so it's exactly how the player was before he/she left (including hexes, enchantments etc.)

Why? RA is a waste of space anyway... Its merely to test builds. Leavers just happen. If they're willing to leave at the first sign of danger, you weren't going to win anyway. What if it gets into a stalemate or someone just runs and can't be killed? Sure lets punish people for leaving because of that.

Locking this thread, and all the other "Fix Leavers" threads in Sardelac, for the time being. When the new system is revealed, we'll look at it, look at these threads, and see if they need reopened or not. Until then, let's all be patient and see what we get.
