Selectable Character Animations
I tried searching for something of this sort, but the crappy engine didn't turn anything up... tell me if it's already been posted.
The idea is that characters should be able to select their set of emotes and animations in the game (by "animations" I mean weapon swinging, method of movement, etc.), rather than have them preset based on profession. I understand not allowing you to pick from animations and emotes belonging to characters of the opposite sex, but your character should be able to decide how he/she/it moves.
It would be best if this were implemented as a simple new tab on the "Hero" window (the one with your titles, faction, and hero battle stats) that has a button to open a window that allows you to select the animation you wish. Personally, I'd like it if some of the non-player choices were available (at the most basic level, human-like enemies such as Mursaat or the Undead, who would be easy as they are normal humanoids), but even if restricted to standard character movements, it would add a lot of customization to characters.
I'll confess that the animation I'd like to pick the most would be the Mursaat ones, as they are probably the most elegant creatures in the game, and the floating is cool, too. But other animations-such as the unique way Afflicted Warriors swing their hammer, or the Lich's amusing /stretch or /laugh emote where he raises his hands and leans back- would fit certain character's personalities.
Obviously, it wouldn't be possible to change your character's appearance (the ability to change hair styles or use a completely different profession model, or even add wings or extra arms or whatever would be an excellent addition to the game, but that's a discussion for another thread), simply the way he/she moves. This would still make sense in the game, and if the monster choices were added, most of their "special" emotes like floating would still be reasonable, as most characters can float while casting anyhow.
Clipping could be an issue with a lot of the animations, especially for Warriors with their particularly bulky armor, but I think that the coolness of swinging a huge maul one-handed might make up for it.

I know, female paragon's have the absolute coolest wand anim ever. They cycle through 3 as well. It seems strange to me that this is the case a paragon's rarely use wands.

My ritualist is stuck with the emotes used by the Elementalist, Dervish, Ranger, etc. I want him to use the guitar, drums, etc, emotes of the Warrior/Mesmer/Monk.
Particularly the flex emote used by the monk; I never understood why this Ritualist class with all it's contortions etc while casting, does not have a flex emote similar to the monk, and the monk somehow gets a flex emote that doesn't at all fit with the monk class (if it were a DnD monk I'd understand, but that's a whole different concept [in DnD a monk is basically a traditional karate-styled martial artist] and monks in Guild Wars don't seem to have any reason why they would have the hand-stand flex emote) and has no explanation.
Since he uses a scythe I'd also find it cool if he could do the fancy swings of the Dervish scythe attack animations.
The rit dance is good as it is, though. Napoleon Dynamite FTW
Oh, and the ability to change emotes would make syncing much easier

I thought of this to myself a while back and thought this would be a great feature for them to implement. Perhaps this will be available in Guild Wars 2?

/signed. Its not really something that would feasibly be possible in GW1, as it would probably require a total revamp, but in GW2, it would be possible, I guess. I mean, I really like the ranger shot "emote", thats used for pin down (no other examples come to mind) with the bow held horizontal.

/signed, im tired of dancing like an idiot, and i would love to sit like a ranger..... but his may be rather had to impleament thanks to lots of server space reqed to have lists of animation that each char has, so even though i would like it im quite sure its not possible

Something like additional commands
/dance 1 *
/pout 2
/cheer 3
Etc...
That could work

That would work for the emotes, but not so much for animations that are automatically used, such as attacks or movements (example: assassins always seem to be halfway crouched over when they're walking or running).

That's because they are suppose to move like that.
Changing animations for anything but emotes should not be allowed, since they are used to 'quickly' recognice them, like similar armor and heights.

Well you guys don't know it, but that is a lot of work for Anet to do. You see, when they create a class, they create 1 animation for each possible action..
The models trigger that animation whenever you type /dance for example. The problem is, to add the animation of an elementalist, you'd have to add it to the model itself, and this would take a lot of time to do. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I doubt Anet will implement something that isn't even a problem by spending literally weeks (or months even) to do.
Though, for what it's worth, I'd sign it.

I think it'd be nice if you could break it down into say 3 categories...
Movement Animations, Weapon Animations, and Emote Animations. Within each of those categories you could pick 1 of the 10 professions for each, so you could move like a warrior, use weapons like an assassin does, but dance like a ranger. Personally I think monster animations would be too excessive.

Just a side note on whether this would be difficult, from what I've seen of modding on other games this would be incredibly easy to implement.

1) Ritualists with their twisting and turning, so awesome.
2) /sit makes females sit. It makes males crouch. -_-
3) Rangers play the flute like sissies.
4) Male eles have the worst dance ever.
Oh, I could ramble on and on about it.

Just because I hate my monks hair, I want the proph hairbuns, but wanted heroes and easy attrib points...so...bring on the hairbuns (Y)
I'd be happy with just a hair stylist, it wouldn't be too hard to put in, and you could just have one in LA, Kamadan and Kaineng, so people could get haircuts based on campaigns unlcoked...and please... no title requirements to get a haircut, lol

How come Mhenlo get's to impress the ladies by dancing like a ranger?
I can understand it being difficult for attack anims and the such though, but it'd be nice if we had more options with at least the emotes.
