Gees... this post is still going?!
well... look at it that way, I don't think the programmer should trap the ALT-F4 function, since it helps me... i usually play my game till the last second before i have to get my lazy bum to work... and i just hit ALT-F4 (close GW), ALT-F4 (close windows) , ENTER (to say yes i wanna shut down) ...
it's a helpful hotkey..
and i still don't think anyone who use computer should "not know about" ALT-F4... best u can say is.. under arena these kind of "stressful" situation, ppl don't remember what alt-f4 does...
and in the case that someone actually don't konw what it does... well.. i think it's a good .. a very good idea .. to learn it...
this is like if u went to McDon*ld and bought a hot coffee... someone told u to chuck it cuz it taste better... .. then u chuck it.. and burn your tongue... u complain to McDon*ld staff that they should've told u it's hot... and u didn't realize the printing company that print the paper cup for McD had printed "caution hot" on the cup.. cuz u don't read the instruction/description... and also blaming the guy who told u to chuck.. but not realizing your lack of knowlegdge that u can't even tell it's a cup of HOT coffee...
i mean... who's fault is this... McD sold u coffee.. which they told the cup making company to print the caution text... so u can't blame them .... on the other hand, u .. at certain age.. still doesn't realize that guy is trying to trick u by telling u to chuck a hot coffee... and at certain age.. u still can't tell what might burn your tongue....
I mean..u can't blame anyone for getting hurt like this... he/she might be bad to "trick" u.. but falling into these kind of trick.... man.... i think the first person to ask is yourself....
this will be the last post i discuss on this thread.....

I think it's more astounding that people think that not knowing a windows command has ANY RELATION to their playing skills in this game.
They are mutually exclusive. I don't think it's been emphasised enough. Or maybe they don't know what those two words mean.
For those that don't know it means they have nothing to do with each other.
If anyone is retarded at all (like those that implied not knowing the command made you stupid) it's the people who draw conclusions like these.
Staying on topic, I'm sure it won't be too much effort for the patching team to disable the combination or link it to a quit confirm box.

Actually, you could be a very intelligent player on Guild Wars and have great strategies and tactics, doesn't mean your a computer whiz and know that Alt+F4 closes the Window you currently have open.

Well put. Few things are sadder than seeing some grown-up nerds in this thread stating: "OMFG THAT'S A QUICK TRICK TO ELIMINATE THE NOOBS, MY UBER GUILD WOULD KICK A%%ES ANYWAY, BUT WE USE ANY TACTICS TO WIN, COZ WINNING IS THE ONLY POINT HERE".
There really is no relation whatsoever, you guys are simply stating something which is illogical.
Using this trick just for fun is basically harmless, and I don't consider an "evil evil evil" person the player who does. It's actually funny as hell. The problem is when you state "hey, the noobs deserve it" or "I'll exploit any tactics to win, no matter what". You really are mediocre people if you're convinced of this, people who don't even deserve a blame.
Sad spectacle indeed.

holy sh*t. like someone else said, take a step back and look at what you just said.
There is so much wrong in just what you said there. Such arrogance, such complete lack of decency to your fellow player. And then that last sentance, such a clincher.
Do you realize how much of an asshole you sound with those four sentances? Everything good that I've been raised with screams out in rage at reading that. Humility, Decency, the competative spirit, kindness to those not as strong as you, fairness, respect for others. Blatantly thrown out the window.
Although its probably unlikely, I hope Anet does something about people like you.
For those saying "they deserved it"
Playing Guildwars in the SCOPE of Guildwars should NOT have to worry about people giving them bad advice for their computer. If they listen to bad advice concerning a build or something like that INSIDE guildwars, fine. But a windows shortcut to close the game shouldn't have to be a thing to worry about. And it doesn't compare to when it happens in Counter-Strike because it can take a long time to reach the HoH, whereas rejoining a counter-strike game is simple.

Holy crap. 6 pages over the ethics of Alt F4.
I say allow it. It's funny and whoever believes "HIT ALT f4 FOR INVINCIBILITY!"
Well, yah. They're trying to cheat anyways so screw them...and they're incredibly gullible.
Edit: Oh and to answera an earlier question, I learned what Alt f4 did while playing Ultima Online.
Someone had said that Alt F4 tells you when a GM is on and I knew it didn't but I was curious as to exactly what Alt F4 really did (I had seen others saying to hit alt f4 to various people for various reasons) so I gave it a try and voila.
How's that saying go? Something about experience and teachers...

You have my sympathy for being raised in an environment that impressed you with such a bunch of crazy notions. The craziest being that you expect me to care about your morals.
But I want this thread to die, not turn into an ideological debate. Nothing will be done about "players like me", for the same reason that nothing will be done about players like you.

I agree completely.
I also saw someone say "if you can't see the score, hit your computer's reset button to refresh the table"....
Needless to say I saw 2 enemy players drop. Not sure if it was because of this statement but if it was, LOL!
As for DarrenJasper, this type of person we call 'elitist'. Someone who has this delusion that they are just plain better than everyone else.

By the way this is not direct at one individual but rather those who use this line of thinking:
You know I am no electrician nor do I know the scientifc properties of electricty but I sure as hell have enough common sense not to stick my finger into any metallic object in a wall socket and especially wouldn't after someone who is trying to kill me suggests I do it.
I've also taken the time to read the manual which if memory serves me properly shows all of the commands in the game as well as keeping the shortcard that came with my copy by the PC for quick reference in case I am wondering about things and if the opponent mentions some command to me and I don't recognize it, I would be looking at the short cut card that came with the game or asking one of my teammates what he was talking about. I guess reading the manual must be a lost art either that or maybe my copy of Guild Wars came with more material that theirs.
I will also admit I have never used this tactic as I know there are people out there that would fall for it and I think it is wee bit on the cheap side. But I also harbor little sympathy for those that fall to an opponent suggestion. Now for my own team, I would ask the team to make sure they know what happens if you do that keystroke combo.

Okay, I'm sure everyone's had enough of their fill by now, but I just want to put my thoughts out to you guys. Take them as you will.
I'm a teenager, I'm 15, and yeah, I know what ALT + F4 does. I use it sometimes to get out of programs. I didn't learn it by anything like this, I don't remember exactly how I learned it but I know that combo like I know the back of my hand. Maybe it's come out of my computer messing up so much. Who knows. But I digress.
I guess I can see where the people who say "If they fell for it they deserved it" are coming from. I mean, yeah, it is a keystroke that most people would know after being on the internet. And yes, they should figure it out.
But I don't think that that gives you the right to teach it to them. I mean, yes, they shouldn't do it and stuff, but you're trying to do that. Be it for "tactics" or to just get a kick out of it, you're trying to make them do something they don't want to.
And while you might think it's funny, others aren't so happy. What if you didn't know that combo, and fell for it? GW is a pretty casual game, but there's a big competitive part too. We can see that if we look at the huge debate about PVP people wanting some way other than PvE to get runes and other such equipment, or something along those lines. And GW is about teamwork. You build a team wanting to do well. And granted, the guy who doesn't know what alt+f4 means might not have been a good team member, but you don't KNOW that. I've been using computers for years now, and I know that there are a few things out there that might be common knowledge to others but I have no idea about.
Guild Wars PvP, especially HoH, is almost always easier with a full team then an empty one. Even PvE is like this too - there are a ton of co-op missions that require teamwork to get through. One less member, n00b or vet, is something people don't want. Why else do people always try and get full parties?
I've been in teams where people have fallen for that trick. And to those people who are saying "Well, if they fell for it they woulda sucked on teh team anyways" then wouldn't it have been better to KEEP them on the team? cause then that sucky player might have wrecked the team's chances of defeating your team, and it would have been easier for you.
I mean, if you are looking at it like "I play this game to win, and this is a tactic to help that" as well as "those people who fell for it were n00bs anyway", would you rather be up against a team of 7 good people and one stupid person or just 7 good people?
I dunno, maybe I'm wrong here, but the whole alt+f4 thing just disgusts me, in a way. I mean, I guess I understand where it would be funny - some of the scenarios you put here did make me chuckle a bit, I won't deny - but I don't think that excuses the fact that it's wrong, in my opinion.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone with this post - I didn't intend to. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys and see what you all have to say about it.
