Default Skipping movies

its so annoying when u tell every1 to skip movies and they all do apart from one. I think that you should be able to go into the game once you have pushed skip. The other peeps who havent skipped should stay afk until it ends or they skip.

This has been brought up many times before. Generally it is a bad idea...

However, these days some cinematics take place as you're entering a town or something like that. In those situations I don't see the harm in jumping through them while others keep watching.

I wouldn't apply this to all cinematics. Ones at the beginning or middle of a mission for example. Having some people jump through them could leave those who wanted to watch the cinematic behind, with the difficult task of catching up to the rest of the group.

Of course, there is the usual problem of mana degen, health degen, minion degen, enchantment durations, enemy attacks, etc. not being forzen during cinematics, but that's a different issue.

I think before a cinematic, a screen should pop up asking if everyone if they want to watch it. It will add up the votes for yes and the votes for no and give it the majority. e.g.: 8 party members and only 4 say yes to the cinematic, the cinematic is skipped. 5 say yes, the cinematic is shown. Simple answer to a simple question... your welcome, lol.

An option to skip them all would be nice, and have a type of Theater or Movie Hall or something where you can go to watch all of the cutscenes, etc would be great.

Yes, let's screw the story for those who haven't seen the cutscene before and want to see it, just because some people are too impatient.

Keep in mind, lots of people want to see it. Not allowing some people to see the movies would ruin the storyline for them. I think cin's are fine now. However they should make it so minions don't die in cinamatics.

This issue has been brought up and discussed (argued) many times.

The responses seem to always be divided...between the "veteran" players who can't afford to spare 30 seconds to a few minutes to watch them, and the "noobs" who have never seen the cinimatics and feel they have the right to watch them.

The only problem I see with it would be if there was an MM on the team that was trying to keep his minions alive, or if the team was being attacked. Then I can understand it. A simple way to solve these two problems, though...would be to have the gameplay "pause" during the cinimatics (minions stop degen-ing/mobs stop attacking/etc).

As for the rest of the group going on ahead while the people who watch it stay behind...I don't really see a point to that. What if a key member of the group (Group Leader, MM, Monk, etc) decides to stay and watch it? You'd have to stand and wait for him anyway. *shrug*

It should be a majority rule. There have been several occasions where my party has entered a cinematic and they were getting attacked only to leave the cinematic with half the party dead.

I thinks it good as it is, I mean how long are the cin's? 30seconds to 1 min. Don't wanna watch it..... go make yourself a sandwhich, go to the toilet. lol

But seriously, Im curently making my warrior, and of the 10 or so missions he has done, about 7 of the cin's have been skipped anyway.

Ok i do see your point with minion master's "minions" dieing and stuff, so fair game there. But I don't think its worth putting in a whole new "anti-cin" system. But to be fair, i have never made a MM, so I don't know the annoyance having your creatures dieing is......

Well thats my opionion on the matter..... Morge

Yeah, we seem to be getting the same responses seen in many other threads on this subject. Let me save you the grief:
  • Majority rules skipping is not going to happen and is a bad idea. It is not fair to those who are interested in watching the story, and forcing people to skip it is just plain rude - not the other way around where the non-skippers are rude.
  • Minion degen and energy degen (for bonders) and other things are problems with the current system, but that requires a different solution, namely pausing them.
What's new about Lithium's idea is that those who skip just move on. Let's not retread old ground here and stick with that discussion.

non skippers arent always people who havent seen the cine, quite a few are those who have seen the mission about to end or whatever and decide this is the time to get a cup of tea or a nice biscuit while everyone has to wait for them, its even worse if everyone has agreed to skip beforehand and the one anonymous guy keeps it running

Some longer cinematics can be long enough for the poor war who accidentally left their vamp sword on to degen to death.

An enemy mob that somehow comes over and owns your group.

Also with the minions. They degen to death.

Tbh, I think the other threads get to a easy and fair solution: game is paused, and I am a bit bewildered as to why AN has not implmented this yet. Its not like its difficult to do.

Personally, the only times I've seen enemies attacking us during a cutscene is when someone rushed ahead to trigger the cutscene. Well, and Vizunah Square before ANET fixed it.

As for losing minions, if the mission is so hard for you that you can't afford to let the MM build up his army again, something is wrong with the rest of your team

/signed

I think you should be able to skip and kill the monsters that are attacking you during the cutscene.

Another /signed for making people invincible during cutscenes, and when the cutscene is over, give all party members a full heal on HP and energy. I have lost too many life bonds waiting for noobs to skip the cutscene, or died during one.

Then A.net should fix that. Party memebers shoudln't lose hp while in a cinematic. Everything should freeze while the cinematic runs it's course.

I agree, the best solution would be something that allows you to go back to and view any cutscenes you want anytime you want.

I'm a person who like cut scenes too and I'm a bit torn with this issue as well. I totally understand keeping minions alive, or if we're being attacked. there definitely should be a way to go back and revisit cut scenes.

cuz the cutscenes that are in the middle of the mission are inconvenient. (or just add a state freeze suggestion as mentioned). I mean, I kinda wanted to see that cutscene in the Mission where you get the Kurzick Urn, but my party was under attack and the roof was falling on our heads so everyone was smart enough to quickly skip it. The other issue, Master Times (which my party got btw in that mission), does the Timer keep going during the cinematic?

uhmm, no. many people don't know the story, and the only reason why i beat the game is to know the story.

If you pause/make invunerable for minions, people with vamps, mobs around the area, bonus timers, npc's getting killed, bond monks, etc than most vets wont *care* if a scene is skipped or not.
