As a counterpoint, I find the insistence on forcing players to compete with one another whether they want to or not one of the most annoying facets of Guild Wars.
Of course, if there were multiple server types, it wouldn't be an issue because PvP people could have one and PvE people could have another.

I think GW1 proved rather handily that PvE players aren't fond of having their game experiences (be it access to elite areas or ability to use services in a town) dictated by the ebb and flow of PvP play.

Who said anything about PVP? It's all strictly PVE. Race X kills more enemies in zone A, then Race X gains control, no fighting players, just strictly taking control by having beaten the most.
