In the past I had made suggestion, loot pick up key. When the fighting is done, click the key and your heros/henches pickup gold, you pick up your loot. This went over like a lead ballon back then.

No, the broad spectrum being that players would no longer be deprived of drops that are unreachable through the movement system.
I worked for the kill, I deserve the loot, no matter where it lands.

Many would consider it an improvement to gameplay, it eliminates an unnecessary mechanic. I find it just plain annoying when I lag and there's that 1-2 second pause between each and every pick-up...I just stop clicking eventually. I'd much rather prefer if items either go directly to my inventory or even if they were all saved in for later in something like that little box that comes up showing loot you left in the last mission.

I'm hoping by 'automatically' picking up loot, that the items and money are instantly placed among your inventory, rather than picking it up physically. If so, rangers, casters a like, if an item is dropped, they may be interupted of their skill just to go pick up the item.
I'd like the transfer of things straight to my inventory better, still listing what they drop. Perhaps, for gold, a new system, that all gold is saved up. When you hit a portal, or enter town, leave a mission, etc, all the gold is then calculated and given out equally. If you leave the missions, well, tough.

how is this promoting bots? they are already programed to pick up all drops in an area (otherwise what is the point of making a bot to kill everything). Hellgate: London has a similar system, item drops on the ground, you push the "F" button, all drops fly to you and deposit themselves into your inventory. Really like that compared to normal loot systems.

Why not? Providing there's something to keep leechers out, like you have to be within agro range of it.

If you are that close it's simple to just press spacebar or mouseclick to actually pick up the loot. What's the difference then?
And changing a system for that rare occasion where a dropped item is unreachable seems silly to me.

I don't think drops should be auto-pickup. But i do think that chest drops (from general chests, and dungeon chests) should go straight into inventory.
If you don't have the space, it should tell you rather than drop the items on the floor. Golds on the floor are a good way to lose items to someone zoning etc.

It'd be alright to impliment, but it'd have to be customizable. Like have it set so it would only pick up gold. Or that it would only pick up gold weapons and leave the white and grapes alone.

Quite a few role playing games I have played in the past have had a key bind to auto pick up loot, or even hench/heros going round picking your loot up for you.
This combined with an option to determine what type of loot gets picked up would be a great addition to the game.
Maybe it is too late for gw1, gw2 however should have this feature.
As said before the bots already have the programming to pick their drops up, so that cannot be an effective arguement against this idea.
Overall this is a quality idea that should have been implemented from the start.
