Yeah, I don't want a DWARVEN POWER! type of game.
To be honest, I really want to be a different type of race, but I can already see it now.
Dwarves are noobs! Charrs are better then everyone else! Asurans are shitheads! Omfg owned you charr noob!

You are wrong about the racials in WoW. With patch 2.3 (Fear Ward for all Priests), all races are pretty close to equal (that is, your race will never exclude you from a group.)
On the contrary, I do not expect racial benefits in GW2. Look at how badly balanced the skills are in GW; would you want a trait that badly balanced that you are unable to change?

nope, just 5 playable races...
Human
Charr
Sylvari

No more have been mentioned or confirmed apart from confirming that Dwarves ARE NOT playable as they are nearly an extinct race

You're assuming that from lack of information.
Anet has not said anything either way.
It's still possible there will be more until someone officially says otherwise.

They'll probably make new races that aren't in guild wars and they'll be even more immature stupid things than Asura. Probably pink poka dot cats with wings.

We aren't doing the "All races draw from a huge benefit pool" when it won't make any sense and just might as well take out races.
GW2 will be like WOW anyway, so, racial discrimination or not, same thing.

It wasn't, but we do know that we will get the 5 playable races, and that Dwarves aren't playable, that seems fairly concrete to me right now

Actually, without racial attributes or restricted classes, adding more playable races over time would be a good way to add content to expansions without bloating the skill deck.

That's just like adding additional armors. It might look awesome, but in the end, IT IS STILL POINTLESS.

/signed on that.
For the issue at hand, I'd take more of a middle ground. I'd like each race to have a little skill or trick that's unique to them that gives them a uniqueness apart from other classes, but not so much of a boon that they're the best, or even the only race for a certain profession.
Just as a side thought, it may become extremely hard for ANet to do skill balances alongside race balances without people whining about their characters being ruined.

Yeah, that's true. But being pessimistic all the time is no fun.
Honestly, I don't expect more... but I can still hope. I want Tengu!
They're featured in the BMP, so why not?
