There are two ways to hold a town:
- The first is to constantly farm faction till you reach the point where the amount you farm each day is lost to the faction decay. Since the decay is 10% a day, they will stop at 10 times their daily donation amount (assuming a constant daily donation rate).
- The second is for alliances that can't maintain constant faction farming. What they can do is get everyone to fill their faction bars over a long period, then donate it all at the same time. The end result is that their alliance faction suddenly jumps to {faction cap} * {number of members}. But since they can't keep up the farming, they will drop again.
Currently the highest spike amount is 10 million, which is lower than both HzH and Cavalon require. Some people might not like the idea that a guild with planning can suddenly grab a town off the alliances that put in constant work. Personally I don't actually care because the spiking alliances will only be able to hold towns for a short while before the decay takes them out of the running again.
I also don't care about owning towns, and the only time I acquire faction is in AB where I can donate between matches.

Um, doesn't look like your prefab FAQ list reply is very meaningful to the OP.
I think it's a good suggestion, because while most people have been donating from the AB outposts, there are people like me that switch to PvE characters every couple matches to get Luxon allegiance skills. If they can do it easily, it sure would be nice.
Oh, and since bilateralrope has set a precedent of random thoughts in this thread... this AB weekend is making me realize that the maxing the allegiance title is pretty crazy. Before this weekend, I thought the max tier was 1 million. Unfortunately, it's actually 10 million faction, and while I played all day yesterday and much of Friday night, I only made it from middle of tier 2 to beginning of tier 4. The amount of faction you need keeps increasing. It's crazy if you ask me. I'm doubtful that they'll lower the max tier, but I hope at least that they'll have double faction weekends a little more often.

Guess you didn't understand the post then
What it means is alliances will be able to pull off larger faction spikes which could result in them getting ownership of HzH or cavalon if such a thing was implemented.

OK, I think I understand now. What reads like a FAQ answer is actually an on topic response. You mean to say that people would think this would be good for faction in regards to town control? Eep! I should stay out of this one because of the way I feel about faction donation for town control.
I think it would have a more *meaningful* impact on your average faction farmer than on alliance town control. For effective faction farming town control alliances this would mean that they could faction spike better, as you're saying. For mostly everyone else it just means keeping AB groups together for longer.

on the "spiking" argument :
an alliance can indeed hold a maximum of 1000 members, but let's say you make it scale more or less like the hero title :
R0 : 10000 cap
R1 : 12000 cap
R2 : 14000 cap
R3 : 16000 cap
R4 : 18000 cap
R5 : 20000 cap
R6 : 24000 cap
R7 : 28000 cap
R8 : 32000 cap
R9 : 36000 cap
R10 : 40000 cap
R11 : 45000 cap
R12 : 50000 cap
now, the chance that you have 1000 members online at the same time with a combined faction spike large enough to overthrow a capital (HzH or Cavalon) is rather low imo. And if you do manage to pull it off i guess holding that town for a couple of hours is an ok reward for something that takes an enormeous amount of planning to work.
on topic : i like the idea, wouldn't mind having it implented, but as i get my faction through ABing, and all AB outposts have reward NPC's, i don't realy need it myself :P

The 10k cap and the constant decrease is enough to keep the system.

Maybe to alter the system, give a person an extra 1k faction to store at every 2 ranks, starting at rank FOUR.
Four, six, eight, ten, twelve.
You can get 15,000/15,000 total.
If you can get 50,000, those who sell their faction to those FFFing guilds, can make huge profit, and would bump up their guilds like crazy. Imagine getting four people with 50,000 to deposit it all in your guild. That's 200,000...

Although this idea is not needed it would still reduce the amount of down time you have whilst doing alliance battles and faction farming.

The system is fine as is, zoning to the guild hall to donate takes no more than 1-3 minutes (if you don't waste time), and you don't even have to go anywhere if you ab it (unless you do want skills, still only 3-5 minutes to get them depending on how much time you waste)

There isn't any downtime with alliance battles. I manage to get both my Balthazar and Kurzick faction spent between the time the party leader hits start and when we enter the battle.
On the other hand allowing large spikes should produce some interesting results.

Heh, I usually prefer to read rather than say anything, but this is something I have a fairly strong opinion about
