Nice idea!
/ signed
However, as others have mentioned it "could" be abused. Making the reward have no in game value other than something visual would help of course, but what if there was also a nominal fee to officially thank someone- say 100g the same as there is to invite someone to your guild.
That measure pretty much stopped the random Guild invites that used to plague the game.
On the whole though, I do like the idea. One of the more original ideas I have seen here :-)

/thank. Originally, I would say that I was against it merely because I thought that thanks could be sold. Then I thought, 'If someone is willing to break an a-net rule to sell a /thanks, the buyer might not think he's trustworthy.' Imagine this:
Buyer:thanks first.
Seller:Money first
Buyer:no, thanks first.
Seller: No deal you n00b I will PWN you!!!

Maybe if people want to take the time to recount nice experiences on forums, then while it's corny, it's more appropriate.

I have one idea to chip in regarding the thank systems.
add a thank button in the trade box, if someone gives you something out of the kindness of their heart, you click the thank you button.
The good deed will be announced in the channel in green letters, Players A has given Players B 100 ectos. et-cetera.... no need a record or a title for it.
This is solely up to the receiver end to decide if they want to click the thank button, because, you cannot make people thank you if your intention in giving away stuffs is to help other players and not because you want the thank you. so the descretion lies with the receiver of the gift.
Players should want to help other players because they want to not because a system made you do it.
my 1.25 sents :P~

I think not. If you did, you must surely remember the thousands of people trying to buy and sell /thanks.

Limit the time you can use it to once per minute or something low, so that people don't spam. Then, set it up so that it shows up in emotes.
It could be like: [Your Name] thanks [Player's Name] for [Reason]!
So you could have something like, Little Timmy thanks Mr T for showing off his muscles!
Other than showing off some message of appreciation, I think any value you get in the game, like title points, items, visual effects, or anything else, should not be implemented.

For your problem of overuse by friends, you could just make it so there are no players able to thank a person twice. Maybe make it so no one on ur friends list or who was on ur friends list can thank you more then twice.
As a consent you should also have the person gain a title and obtain a special consumable item (like fireworks?) or something, maybe an old mini or lessen your time to wait for your next birthday? But make this absurdly high
/signed anyways

Whilst this is truly a nice idea I think I have to say
/not signed
If you want to thanks someone for helping you or other people then just give them a tip, or a nice item or spread the word to your fellow guildies how nice they were.
If they ran you, then their chances of increasing the running revenue will go up due to the kind words you said about them.
If they helped you with a quest then they will have a good friend that might be able to help them back at another time.
I don't see the point for this except for either having a new title or earning more things and thus gaining an advantage over others.
Sorry but not signed & not because I think its a bad idea.
I think your heart is in the right place op.

/notsigned i loved the idear at first, sadly enough i can see lots of people abusing it, theres enough titlegrinders out there for titles or emotes or whatever. All i'd have to do is /thank someone, whatever i/she/he really feels=Artificial friendlyness=no thx.Maybe it can be adjusted somewhere but until now i don't see how.
