Please stay on-topic guys.
The solution(s) In Deadslap's IMO:
1. PERMANENTLY ENABLE CHAT FILTER AND REMOVE REPORT FOR LANGUAGE BUTTON.
OR
2. DROP THE REPORT FOR LANGUAGE BUTTON IN NON-FILTERED CHAT. (YOU MADE YOUR DECISION TO SEE SWEAR WORDS.)

Inappropriate language is not just swearing.
I don't see the current system being changed because some people are being suspended for inappropriate language.
This topic is really silly when I think about it. If anyone wants to play a game where they can swear till their hearts content, then play another game where the rules say you can.

yes always have to have the "cool guys" saying "QQ" or "epic fail". to bad they don't know how stupid they sound themselves.
on topic, i swear all the time in gw. i don't spam it to people in whispers or in local chat, but i have never had a problem. seems to me like you were harassing or spamming. but if it was racial they give you a separate message for that. besides, im more than positive "normal" swearing wont get you banned, im sure there is a reason behind you ban.

That's the lamest excuse I've ever read and it keeps coming again and again in these "let us swear freely" threads. The obvious answer to the OP's proposal is: NO, you can't remove the banning category because people try to bypass the language filter. End of discussion. When people will behave responsibly, all this will disappear naturally. For the moment, it's here for a good reason, even though you do not seem to understand it.

Yeah right 5 year olds. If their parents allowed them to play, they should be allowed to be exposed to verbal abuse as well.

--- ---- Guru chatspeak is bloody annoying. *dies a little inside*
To what the hideous poster above me said, T = teen = PG-13, no? An example of movie ratings, if they say eff more than once, it's R, only once, it's PG-13. That's just an example of what I believe should be allowed, although a bad one. Swearing = okay, explicit racism or sexual...ness... shouldn't be tolerated.
If it's on 4chan, it probably shouldn't be described about your mother in GW.

Did you actually read thread? It goes like this:
Person with filer ON sees something offensive that bypasses it -> reports -> okay. This kind of person should have report button avaiable.
Person turns OFF filter -> gets offended -> reports -> definitelly not okay. This kind of person should have report button for chat disabled because he agreed to see offensive material in first place.

How would the OP know that people reporting swearing/offensive material are actually not using the filter? Unless he tried it himself. But then, how does this applies to the general population? How does the OP and others know that this is frequent? Because he said so?
This is (almost) ridiculous. Trying to blame game features (which are inherently limited, one can always discuss issues of consistency but then what's the point of discussing a situation that may not actually apply in the game?) without ever pointing at the root of the problem. The swearing and offensive material in the first place.
The idea that no gentleman ever swears is all wrong. He can swear and still be a gentleman if he does it in a nice and benevolent and affectionate way. - Mark Twain

In my mind, inappropriate language is usually more than the odd f*ck. We don't know what was the incident that got OP or others in similar situation banned. The /report option is "verbal abuse". It doesn't really give the impression they would ban on bit of swearing alone. I have used it a few times to report a player who just lashes out to someone excessively or uses racist slurs.
I personally wouldn't use it for a few curse words (mainly because I think e-Rage is funny) but sometimes they do cross the line, chat filters or not, and they should be reported.

See your problem is that you live with the idea that your free to express your language.

Swearing is pretty tasteless but everyone does it, don't think you should be banned for it because this game is rated T and even has a swear filter. If you honestly don't want to see swear words GET THE RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO OFF THE INTERNET, tbh.

Go into various stores, shops, restaurants, etc. and yell out a multitude of expletives and other rude, offensive banter; then take note on how many throw you out, and how many actually ban you from their establishment. When we play GW, we are in Anet's store. They have every right to boot you when they feel you are disrupting other customers' experiences.

I have never heard of anyone ever getting banned for a traditional four letter swear word.... the only language bans I've ever known of are usually related to racism or some other form of degrading personal attack that certainly should not be allowed in any setting, let alone an online game. If you're so ignorant as to think you drop the N-bomb in all chat and not offend people, you deserve the ban.

No not everyone does swear, and the internet is certainly not the property or exclusivity of people who want to publish offensing material. Believing so is letting inacceptable behaviour in via the small door.
What does swearing and being offensive brings to the discussion or game? I know that in the USA the f-word is very common (it's also the case in Ireland for example), but it's not because a "people" (not sure it's the case of the general population) accepted it that it becomes a rule.
I don't understand why anyone would say that they cannot avoid using swear words, unless they've never been taught proper English?

I think it's habit Fril. I had a roommate who swore every second word. Everywhere. And had to be told to shut up all the time.
I know he wasn't stupid, because he would get embarassed when he realized what he'd done.
My current roommate only swears when he's drunk. If he's sober and swears it's a shock to everyone. It's strange.
As for me, when anyone has heard me swear, they always say how incredibly weird it was to hear me swear, as I just don't do it.
