ANET - how about an API?
I had a thought today that it would be really cool if we could access our account or character information via an API.
This would enable the building of guild wars related web apps. For example, you could pull information related to titles achieved, hall of monuments stuff, account data such as hours played, number of deaths etc...and display it in your own site, or forum profile for example.
As for privacy...maybe include an option somewhere to hide your details from the API?
I can't imagine it would be too difficult, given that all this stuff is database stored anyway...so pretty please? Even for GW2?

I don't think they're about to just give us access to part of their main database via anything either than the Gw.dat. ArenaNet has always kept the database as inaccessible as possible.
Access to database leads to hacking; hacking leads to exploits; exploits lead to the dark side!

If it existed it would be read only, 'hacking' wouldn't be a problem.
Sounds like the WoW Armory, which isn't a bad thing.

Guild Wars has been recognized for its really good security, which amounts to having all data locked up behind the servers and inaccessible. Exploits like armbrace dupes would be dwarfed by real data hacking if they made an API.

A simple "Export character info" in the Hero panel so the Client creates a .txt file with the info should be much more than enough.

Might as well ask for X-Fire support.
And to be honest, I'd prefer to have things like that ingame, so, /notsigned
