Eq degradation is just a regressive taxation system. You want to reduce money supply? Implement a flat tax on all trades, subsidizing some essentials like kits and keys.

I am all for making people sucking less, hoewever:
Punishing people for sucking this way is stupid because you are basically taking away any possiblity to suck less (how are they gonna afford skills they need to suck less. sorrect insignia, etc ...), how are they gonna lern2play when they can do no damage and have al of their armor reduced to starter level without funds to get it back.
Also, taking damage is not playing well. Average squishy in tankway group can be far far from being good player, yet he would have no armor related costs. Moreover, single spike dropping him down would be of little effect on his costs.
The the other hand, proper team would be taking very high damage per capita, but would flawess all enemies in record time. Yet they would be punished for being faster and more eficient.
This kind of logic does not stand.
As for sense of realism. I suggest character sleep. for every 16 hours of gameplay you need to spend at least 8 hour in sleep mode. You need to hit "Zzzz" button at least one in minute or that minute does not count as sleep mode (to prevent afking from this important gameplay element).

You expect people not to suck in a game that doesn't reward good play? I laugh...hard.
You play a free game, you take the crap that comes with it. Granted people in P2P games can suck, but there is less of them.

Hell no, I've quit games that had armor/weapon degeneration in the past and don't want to see it here. It's not fun to have a weapon shatter and be lost forever in the heat of battle, leaving you defenseless. Storage is already at something of a premium without forcing everyone to take along a few emergency backup weapons and extra armor.
And I for one don't want to have to go through the trouble of defeating Abaddon/Shiro again to get at another set of elite armor.

If weapons broke over time, I'd probably quit the game. Who wants to shell out cash to buy weapons all the time just because they broke? I don't care about the economy to be honest, so I think it would be stupid if they made weapons break over time. You basically wasted money to buy or make them then.

I'd totally uninstall for good if something like that was added to guildwars. Really wouldn't improve the economy, everyone would just be broke.

At least we would get one good thing out if this idea.
As much as I would love to see the above part happen, the idea still sucks.

No, please, thank you.
Nobody wants to fight and all of a sudden : "oh no, my sword broke, now I'm gonna be almost useless for the rest of the mission/elite area."
I prefer to use my money to buy armors , and not to fix them.

You have 00:00:01 to name a game in which Equipment Degradation was beneficial.
I thought so.

As stated, it's kind of what DP does, only that you don't have to pay for it. People still get punished for sucking.

But this punishemt is more fitting: "reward" for unskilled gameplay is not permanent and more immediate and more forobiding. Player is always welcome to retry with better tactics with 0 downtime. And player can adapt tactics immediatelly and work out DP.
But they are not being debilitated. They can eventually afford proper/better tools (if they dont already have them.).

Having to repair them wouldn't be so bad just annoying and unneeded. But i'd quit if i ended up loosing them.

Personally, I think it would be funny if the Emporer gave everyone a tormented weapon of their choice and a rare Asian mini-pet of their choice during the Canthan new year as presents.
That would effectivly destroy the economy and force a new one to emerge. Also, it would teach all the players how un-important the ingame economy is for the fact that there is no rare weapon, min-pet, or armor in the game that will somehow hamper your progress or effectiveness throughout the game if you don't own it.
Vanity will do strange things to you.

It does not work in GW and does not belong into GW.
Yet I want to mention a game where equipment degradation was implemented and where it was working great: Ultima Online.
It also had a crafting system and you could have blacksmiths repair your gear.
But GW does not offer anything like that - it would be just annoying for a Diablo-style game.
