Default Would economy improve if weapons/shields broke and armor AL decreased over time

I have seen many threads where the economy is referenced as broken. Interested on thoughts about the economy improving if weapons and shields broke over time/usage and if armor AL decreased over time/usage.

Thoughts?

Equipment degradation has never been a good idea in any game ever. It just interrupts your fun with trips back to town, really. Wouldn't have too much of an effect on the already pretty broken economy either imo, other than even more gold farmers.

What he said.

Besides, economy would be much worse. Why buy that precious weapon when you cant wield it except for screenshot (and make qq threads when you forgot to swap to your normal weapon set and lost some durability on your rare)? Everyone would just use collectors stuff and lol at you for tryng to sell em gold/green for more than 5k.

Only thing worth trading would be upgrades (IF they didn't degrade) and even them, market would be limited as people would reuse them over and over on new items (thanks to perfect salvage kit)

I agree.

I would not mind seeing actual enemy skills, however, that destroyed weapons or shields.

well firstly little harsh on both casual players who can afford to constantly replace armour and shields and more hardcore who can't use there more expensive stuff that they spent ages farming/trading/however else people make money to get.

Secondly (this only counts if the "problem is things getting cheaper, just started playing after a break):

I maintain that the economy is in better shape with as things get cheaper more people can get more stuff which is what every real economy wants if your going to moan say some like "it is harder to make a good amount of profit which is reducing the amount of trade occurring."

A feature that might have worked at the start but it would just annoy people now.

this would just encourage more bot farming and general grind. I would hate to replace my Amyth. Aegis because it broke. it would make the game too gear-reliant anyway

I'm all for implementing a durability count for all items, and a cost for replenishing an item's durability points. I don't think it would fix the economy though, loot scaling, mini pets and such have killed it too much already.

EDIT: (to everyone attempting to show off in this thread, [email protected])

No thanks. I'm too poor to pay armor and weapon upkeep. This would make prestige armor and rare skinned weapons an unsupportable expense. Can you imagine the cost of upkeep on Fissure armor or a Destroyer weapon?

I would love to to hear why you think its a good idea in GWs, it should be entertaining.

Hell, why it would be good idea in any game.

Not too sure...In WoW it's more of a death penalty, and Guild Wars already has one of those.

Yes, the economy is broken, overflooded with top quality gear which makes it near impossible to sell almost anything. It's not about making profit or getting high prices, low prices wouldn't necessarily be bad if things actually did sell. It's so bad even a full-blown auction house wouldn't help.

But item decay would not be a solution, not at all. It would cause more player hate and ragequitting the game than any update before. And if there was a way to repair damaged items it would be simply an annoying goldsink. If there was no repairing it would cause players to just use those cheap greens/golds and not use expensive stuff at all. It would increase demand for the lower end stuff obviously, but doing it this way with all the negative aspects of it is not worth it.

I'd say the damage done to the economy by [1. easily mass farmable greens, 2. inscribable items, 3. very high gold item drop rate in hard mode, abused by farmers farming 10-15 golds per hour] cannot be undone. I can't think of any solution, anything that would make people start to buy stuff again.

Yes, it would have removed some of the gold that farmers were apparently putting into the game that forced anet to make loot-scaling.

It adds a sense of realism to the game and forces people to, if you may, suck less. That is, don't want to have to constantly repair your armour? Stop dying/taking so much damage. I don't think it will do much to fixing the economy, though. Crashing ecto/shard prices as a result of loot scaling and farming nerfs, the near disappearance of the green market as a result of further nerfs and over farming and a generally weaker community have pushed the economy beyond recovery imo. Not that it's a problem, ~2 years of an enojoyable economy have left me content.

To OP: Even if it's a good idea, ANet will not implement it because all their resources and efforts are focused on GW2. Hopefully the don't RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO that up.
