From what I can tell, most people go "omg, use search!" but then all they find is closed threads. So if they wanted to talk about Mesmers deserving buffs but the thread was closed...
Don't contribute to the cess pool that is Sardelac. Every time you do, God kills a kittens.
On topic, Mesmers have [skill]Signet of Illusions[/skill]. Is that awesome or what? 12+whatever Illusion, 12 Fast Cast, whatever skills on your bar you want, including rank-attributed pve skills. Good deal.
|
Yet again you are proving other proff's skills are much better than mesmer's ones by useing signet of illusions. Just go ele with SF instead of SOI with fire skills. Just go monk with HB instead of healing with SOI.

You can use Signet of Illusions with... Fast Casting/Domination/Inspiration Magic too. I'm not proving anything of what you claim, I'm proving that Mesmers ALONE can use spells from ANY other classes primary attribute because of that Signet. Obviously some spells because of how they are worded wont work that well like Life Seed, "There's Nothing To Fear!", but a majority will, like the if your attribute = x it will have x effect/damage/etc spells.
Think Pain Inverter.
You don't HAVE to, but GW does have a secondary profession system for a reason.
Because of Signet of Illusions, mesmers can do all that which elitests say they cannot when they snub mesmers from their group. But like anything, it comes down to the 8 skills you decide to put on your bar as to how powerful a profession is. With that skill, a mesmer can effectly spec to any caster class. Can another caster profession do that?

Signet of Illusion is the jack of all trades button. Not a fix by no means but it is a fun skill to use.
Personally I like to use it for Ritualist spells Fire power and healing all in one at increased casting times Fast casting them all at lvl 16

I still dont understand why to run illusion with SOI and use it with domination while you can just play domination? SOI could be fun to use, but extremely annoying in some point, when you need to spam it and it still has a 5 seconds recharge.

I'm not saying you have to, putting words in one's mouth seems to go around these forums quite often. I'm more so noting you have the option. Mesmers have the option of using SoI, which is a powerful tool. A powerful tool that you do not have to use.
If you want to run a Domination build, by all means, run a Domination build. Run a 12+w/e-9-9 split, run whatever you want. Regardless, SoI is a very powerful signet, which was my point. Your annoyance with spamming it, doesn't make it any less so.

We have a post count!?
Where?!
Anyways, yes, mesmer can overcome any class if they want to.
But at pve, wich is what the majority is talking about, that doesnt mean anything because the system they offer at us at pve doesnt make shutdown significant compared to tank and nuke, because of what i said before: too many targets to shutdown, so one shutdown wont mean anything, but damage in a area will, because it will have effect over at least 3 or 4 targets, while mesmers and other classes affects one or two at max.

Mesmers are going to be the way they are until GW2. In that game skills stats in PvP will be separate from PvE, as both games will be separate. Then a skill can be nerfed in PvP to everyones joy without affecting the PvE character. Until then, all you can do is make PvP hell for others, and HnH or Guild/friend your way through PvE. To affect elites at this stage in the game just pisses everyone off or causes imbalance.

Mesmers can do more than shutdown. They can melee hate, caster hate, fast cast the spells of any other profession and have lots of energy management. If you suck at playing a mesmer in PvE, it isn't necessarily the profession, no offense.
The thing with mesmers is they are like paragons in that they take a certain amount of literacy to understand the skills and use them effectively. Therefore you have a limited player base that are able to use the class, and everyone else that 'doesn't get it' also wont see the value.
Mesmers are fun, but they are not for the retarded.

Use Mindbender for the fast casting part and go ele or any other proffesion with the "othe rproffesion spells" you mentioned. They just dont have skills themselfs. Shutdowns are caster hate, melee hates, so no point.

I'm pretty sure threads of terrible ideas are contributing to said lack of quality more than locked threads.

Well, they are. I more so mean that 5 terrible ideas on the same thing is worse than 1 (and probably 4 I haven't seen).
Thinking that last part made me concur. Nevermind.

To get the same out of it, it would require you to grind and get Asuran rank, which takes (some) effort when you could go Me/ and just put 7-9 attribute ranks into Fast Casting.
I consider shutdown to be when the target red dot cannot function, or function effectively against your, not when it's stupidly slapping green dots around through empathy, ineptitude, clumsiness, etc which I would call melee-hate. This terminology may not be what most players use, as I'm going off of how I would have this discussion with a guildie.
You sound like you're pretty dead set against trying to play a Mesmer.

SoI is good for if you want to have a little Dom Magic for some caster hate, and go /N for a little melee hate, or, you could go /E and grab a ward of melee.
Basically, Mesmers only need buffs for the people that are GW-retarded and don't know how to play them.

The only reason anyone brings this skill anywhere is for GvG at VoD, which would make it -116 to target and all NEARBY foes, that's like, half an aggro circle, correct me if i'm wrong. and -8 Energy to every caster if you're a decent mesmer. Combine that with Energy Burn, and it's -16 energy and -232 damage. That's a lot, especially if you've got a dozen archers and 2 Knights attacking you. It's a lot of pressure for a monk to take. Warriors hardly deal that kind of pressure.
