Eh...if GW had more areas where you needed to walk slowly, I'd be for this.
But really, I see this as more of a GW2 thing.

Left this thread to stew for awhile and I just came back, read the rest of the posts after mine (I know that it is impractical and not really worth anyone's time to do it on a regular basis but it helps if you already know what points have been made in a discussion like this one). The three stances of support and opposition that I see thus far in the discussion are...
Support:
1."Useful for making movies".
2."Helps Roleplaying characters/players immerse themselves in the game world and get a better overall feel for Guild Wars from that playing style".
3."It won't hurt anyone if Anet implements it".
Opposition:
1."Not worth Anet's time".
2."Stupid idea in the first place, close the thread".
3."Use some effects, crippled, frozen (environment) etc."
Analysis
I personally agree with all of the support points as well as the point that you can use the environmental effect and traps etc. while filming to get the slowed "walking effect". However, a walking key/function would allow people to escape from the constrictions of having to cripple themselves etc. in order to film a walking avatar. I know that I kinda resurrected this thread but I think it is definitely one that we will need to keep pursuing if there is actually a serious backing for implementation.
Hope this shed some light on things ^^

Let's take the BEST set for a video: Denravi's Stage. It's just great. Can you make a 'slow entrance' in there? No. There is no explorable equivalent.

To all of those that think walking is stupid... we have dancing, drums, air guitar, a jump animation, flute, beg, cry, clap, wave, laugh, even an animation that makes you look like your trying to get a damn colony of ants off you. All of these animations (and I probably missed one) are all callable through a nice slash-command. Do any of these serve a purpose to the players? Not really. They're there for ambient reasons, and for players to have fun. Guess what... even hard core gamers use these emotes. That being said, what's wrong with a simple walk ability?
Anyway...

Have you ever seen the cripple animation ?
It looks like you have a broken leg... If you ever walk like that IRL, you should go to the hospital.
The "slowed" animation is much nicer-looking, but there are only a few skills that are self-targeted and are not enchantments (which look stupid on a video), Dolyak Signet is the only one that comes into my mind. You can only use skills in explorables, while a lot of RP/videos are made in towns.
This situation, for stance : You are the main or one of the main people in a RP ceremony, for example you are about to become one of your Guild's officiers. (in RP guilds, it is common to have a whole ceremony in the GH) So the GM asks you to walk to him... And you run. Totally ruins it IMO

Yea, i would just like to point out that I totally support this idea and that I have already signed... I was just throwing out what I had seen the main points to be thus far in the conversation. The crippled/Slowed animations are not great, I agree. Afore mentioned animations cannot be used to film if you are going for looks (which is what you go for when filming ^_^). I just thought that if we had clear view of what the general mood of the thread was, it would be easier to continue a productive discussion.
Sorry for the confusion I caused... and for the sake of being thorough...

When I first started playing, I was annoyed by the constant running and the fact that there was no walk option. It still annoys me at times.

Instead of this, why not a "run faster skill" that is only limited for a certain time and quickly builds up your exhaustion :P I didn't post this in a new thread because it would just get a bunch of /notsign, and "get a speed buff" comments haha

They'd probably say that now, just to confuse new players. Also, they'd try that out to see if they can fine people, rather than just standing by storage begging for 30 gold.
Still I fail to see your point.

I'd prefer to walk to get closer to enemies than try to inch forward at the default jogging speed.

Why not? It would be incredibly easy to implement.
For those of you who say A-net has anything better to do, I give you exhibit A:

I would just like to say for you and everyone else who likes to predict what may or may not be easy to do. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CODE OR HOW ANYTHING WORKS IN IT SO YOU CAN NOT POSSIBLY KNOW WHAT IS / IS NOT EASY TO CODE. So please, quit making assumptions, cause seriously, you're all just pulling them out of your rears.

This suggestion is not to change running to walking is to add the option to walk while in any outpost by holding down a key.
If you don't want to walk, do not walk.

if people are really worried about it then it could just be for outposts only. or when there are no enimies around.
