Intimacy level for Pets as better Evo System
Pet evo should be simple done through following points:
Implement to the game Pet Consumeables, like Pet Snacks or so and other Pet Comfort Items, which when you use them, while you run around with your Pet will either increase or decrease the Intimacy Level of your Pet.
And in Regard of how high or low this Intimacy Level is, it will change the Evo of your Pet.
The Bar goes from 0 to 100
Between 0 to 32 the Pet is Dire
Between 33 to 65 the Pet is Elder
Between 66 to 100 the Pet is Playful
As you can think of this Intimacy System, all 3 Points wil have naturally the Downsides, as the Upsides
Those are then stil the same, as we know them about Max HP and the Power of the Pets attacks, but this System lets Pets become permanent CHANGEABLE in their evo, without the point, that the player has permanently to watch, if now the pet or you do more damage, because otherwise it could inflict the evo of the pet -.-
With the Intimacy Systerm, you just feed your Pet and comfort it, or not, until the level reaches a point, that you want to have.
This Intimacy Level naturally changes also too then over time automatically.
Each time your pet dies, the Intimacy goes down, each time your Pet kills a foe (gives it the deadly damage that kills the foe), the Intimacy raises up.
So players would have to use those Intimacy Consums permanently "theoreticlly" every now and then, to keep the intimacy the way you want to have it.
Pet Consums would be also a nice new Gold Sink and to mae them not an unfair gold sink, the price of Pet consums will be very low.

Hmm..
/notsigned for GW1 , although it may be worth it for GW2.
What you're describing is similar (ish) to how the hunter pet works in WoW. While I have fun with my hunter and like the system, you shouldn't have to rely on purchasing consumables to keep your pet happy. In WoW you can easily get food for your pet while on the move by using mob drops (flanks of meat etc) depending on what your pet eats, in the case of my lion it's meat or fish. So I can use my fishing skill to top up on food for him easily.
I can't seem them changing pet evolution at this stage of GW1, and dependent on the level of RP in GW2 this seems a bit unwieldy for PVP pets.

What we need is not another way to evlve pets.
It's a way to change the ones we already have, specially for PvP players.
Something like this:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10175943
And like another similar suggestion I've seen around here (but I cannot find)

Pet Intimacy - that's just damn kinky!
I'm damn sure intimacy with pets is illegal in virtually all the countries where Guildwars is sold and if not it should be because it is way warped!!!

omg lol, you guys make me laugh *fg*
I'm sry that I hitted it seems the wrong word, to describe what I mean with this suggestion ^^ I suggest here naturally not sex with beasts lol
I meant with that only, the kind of relationship a ranger should have to its pet should be the indicator for what kind of pet the pet will be and will evolutionize into...
And I wanted to change the pet system to a way, so that the evolutions won't be anymore static, once an evo got reached - no the player should become able to change the pet evo, whenever you want to, so that it receives more tactical structure. Sometimes the more health can be more helpful, than the extra damage and vice versa, but it needs to be changeable at will. Static is not good.
That we need also Pet Storage, Mounts ect. I think, we know all, but that was not the topic about here
That we will see such changes not anymore for GW1 I think is also clear, therefore has anet simple to do to much about GW2 atm and also I personally have yet not seen any statement about GW1 of Anet, that lets me really believe, that they really still care much about this game, other then Skill Balancing and Bug Fixing... but improve the gameplayß, make the game more fun and fix some garbage concepts, that could have been fixed for years ago, about that we, the community complain in all Elite Forums now soon for 3 years? nah.. I really believe, anet cares a **** about GW, otherwise they would have had way enough time to fix many flaws of concepts the game has ..
So naturally was this here thought only for GW2, where Anet has the chance with this new game to create something, that is NOT from the begin on infected with hundreds over hundreds of concept flaws like a single Virus that is spreaded out on the whole game and makes players complain about Anet, how less they have thought out certain things and could have done stuff better, if they would have implemented those features maybe later with better conceps.
We all know, the concept of the rangers beast mastery is only 1 signle big Flaw and what i suggested would be just 1 way of many, to make this feature around the profession much better and even giving the game through it a tiny gold sink ...

What?
So have different levels in another Beast Mastery-type attribute affect whether your pet is Dire, Hearty, or Elder?

Pet evolution is one of the better mechanics in the game imo.
Hearty evolution : pet took tons of dmg along the way
Dire evolution : pet took little to no dmg (life bond + life barrier + call of protection)
Elder evolution : after first evolution (aggressive/playful) do the exact opposite of what you had been doing
Pretty much guaranteed results..

Looks like it makes dire the easiest to get. Not very good for the game, since many people want dire for the extra damage. Pets will typically become hearty from dying a lot, so the system needs some reworking.

/notsigned. But I agree with Phoenix on the 'intimacy' part. If your pet dies, your spirit is crushed, you get -60 dp and suffer from faintheartedness; you just lost a loved one, sucks to be a ranger.
