how about a "trim" type of thing
the cape itself would not change color or shape or design, but there would be something on it (kinda like the top rank guild cape trims) that tell the people where they rank in the guild...a Guild leader trim, officer trim and the regular members get..well...just the regular cape?
But the trim would be customizable, giving a bit more variety in the overall cape design.

- The cape background color will change in PvP areas.
- Many times, too many times, Guild Leaders have a very bad taste in capes.
I have nothing against choosing background color. But it could make the cape look maybe a bit too different.
If it was my choice, I'd allow to change change length and border shape instead.

So, individuals can change their cape's background to match their armor?
/signed. Sound good to me.
Another nice feature might be that people can pay 2k to suggest a cape design to the Guild Leader.

I think that would be an excellent idea. Such as having the Guild Leader design what trims are for what rank imo.

I like the idea. Sometimes my armor color just clashes too much with a cape. On the other hand, it kinda defeats the point (a unifiying symbol of your guild). Although there are a lot of guild cape designs, only so many of them are popular. The color is a key party to making capes look distinct.

I would like it a lot. Sometimes I feel the cape doesn't feel right on some of my characters. It needs a little more thinking over though. It can't look too different. Maybe only different shades of a certain color?

The whole purpose of a cape is to show the world that you belong to whatever guild you belong to. I dont think it would be a good idea. It defeats the purpose of a guild cape: Unity.
I do, however, like the idea of a guild ranking system on the cape. I also think that Officers and Guild Leaders should have some kind of thing on ally chat to mark them as such as well. That would help a lot in large alliances where it is difficult to memorize every officer.

/notsigned a guild cape is ment for the whole guild.
If they want there cape different get in touch with a modder have them make them make you a texmod to how you want your cape to look. I had a friend make his cape look like batmans except it was longer
Edit: To trim idea /notsigned. I am tired of people bieng crappy and QQing about something and asking for it to get implemented into something else. You want a trim play more and get in a high ranking guild and get that trim. OR pay your way into DF or any other one.
If you don't like the cape on your paticular character. Hide it. There is your option.

Imagine a football team taking the field, and each player has the option to change the color of his jersey.

This isn't football :P but thanks for your comment

nah.
The truly patriotic members of the guild would change their armor to match the cape, not the other way round.

I think the back ground color is a little extreme.
The basic Idea is good however. There should be a way to distinguish from leader, officer and member. perhaps the gold trim at the top should be: copper for members, silver for officers and gold for leader.

This option I'm suggesting doesn't mean members & officers will change their cape colour but it does give them the option.

How about you tell those guys to get a different offhand handbag to match their cape instead
/not signed
It is just as easy for the members who do care to change the colour of their armor to fit the cape (although as you say you change the cape on a regular basis it could get expensive after a while). They also have the option to hide the cape untill it is changed to something which does fit their armor again.
