Oh, Yeah why don't they make GW those HD looking Cutscences XD.
Like in Final Fantasy, Where the Graphics get's intense and emotions really take place XD.
Instead of NPCs doing emotes -_-.
But crappy computers only get SD quality T_T.

the chars are very emotionless
when you type the emote /head he'll bow his head and show no emotion
not even breathing or a blink of an eye

for emotion for characters, you also need something more, than just only a silly 0815-Story around a characters sacrifice, that is licked out like a lollipop in the rpg genre, especially when anet is then so dumb to brign the same shit 3x in a row >.>, only with slightly personal changes and "histories" *if you even get some told of them in the story at all) of the sacrificed characters.
To make an sacrifice emotional, you must not only bring the players on to like the Characters, but you must give the players also soem epic stories - best something, that you can compare with the real life - stuff, that could have also happened you or your best friend for example. Then you receive a better image of the characters's personality.
ALso the characters (npcs) must show emotions, when I see NPC's in a game, like feelingless pixels, then this is just only boring.
When the Character Designers created then such a character, with such an epic story, that has a wodnerful likesome personality and the game designers let this character then lifer for LONGER than just only 1 stupid campaign, when the character is somehow more special to the game, than normal 0815-NPC's like any silly Quest Givers, then will people become maybe a bit emotional about the loss of this NPC, especially when the one was for several stories in the game and played soem important roles in the story, other than to die like the biggest noob of the world running into a stupid predictable trap, like Rurik did, just looking how the Snow overwhelms hisself, instead of fleeing, when he had enough time to avoid it >.<
Togo was the classical victim "sacrifice", beign murdered by the villain of the game, not much to say about.
Kormir is the most ridiculous b*tchslap into a players face for giving a community the most retarded story end, I've ever seen. Story Writers should have let her go to grenth, for beign the biggest lazy npc of the game, which deserves only a big kick into the butt >.<
---------
I really hope, the story of GW2 will be more original and full of clichee about those sacrifices, like anet did with GW1 3x in a row, as if they couldn't create better stories, where no npc must sacrifice itself in the story so early like Rurik in proph.
Sacrifices come best, when they come near to the end, when you traveled most of tghe journy with characters, got to know them and got enough time get eventually some kind of "feelings" for them, if you really liked those characters very much. THEN and only then are such story elements like sacrifices really epic !!
I'm sure, nearly everyone here played Final Fantasy 7!!
Why do you people think, is this RPG called one of the most epic RPG's ever ?
The Gameplay?, the Story?, the Character Design?, the games Setting and Scenario? with other words, its Game World?.
There must be something, that lets players keep this game forever in their mind and remember on it.
It is the STORY paired together with an wonderful epic Character Design!!
FF7 is epic, because 1 very special part has burned into our minds, because this scene was soooo epic, dramaturgic and extreme sad, that I know, that much Hardcore gamers, when they play this game for their 1st time, are near to the tears !!!! when not even really QQ and why ?
Its because of the epic character design, that very much people really sympathazise to the games characters and their stories.
Aeris's Death Scene to say it by its name - the moment in RPG's history, that millions of players will NEVER forget anymore, because of such epic character design paired with a wonderful game's story and a wodnerful sad Melody, that supports very much to QQ about that wonderful Character's Death!!!
Her death comes like a SHOCK ^^ to that is the death of rurik like a bad joke ...

I've found that I'm not upset about anything that happens in Guild Wars because I've felt that none of the characters were particularly likeable. Togo may've been the only exception, so there I was a bit upset, but for the rest it's hard to like them. Talk to the henchmen in the GWEN outposts to see what I mean.

Seeing how GW has a very "meh" storyline, its not suprising we don't feel for the characters.
When Saidra gave her life to give us more time to run from the Mursaat and died about 2 seconds later from Spectral Agony, instead of feeling any sadness, I was laughing my ass off.
If GW wants us to believe in their characters, they need to make us believe in their storyline.
EDIT: For the record, the only intense feeling I had was how much I hated Rurik for putting me through all that Char crap in Ascalon.
That and Saidra.

Gah, I remember on some film (Quite a while ago) where some guy just walks into some other guy who is evil and ends up getting squashed like a fly.
I Will Avenge *Splat*!
