PvE Character Deletion Postpone
My friend's account got hacked couple of days ago and not only he lost all his possessions, but hackers deleted all his chars!!!! With 4000 hrs spent in game- imagine his grief and anger.
aNet restored his account but said they can do nothing about the lost chars and that they don't care...
My suggestion is that Guild Wars PvE chars should be protected against that kind of intentional deletion.
I have a few variants of this, so I'd appreciate your oppinions on which one is the best in your oppinion (notes on postponement time also appreciated):- every PvE character's deletion postponed for 7 days (to restore control over the account in case of hacker's activities)
- every lvl20 PvE character's deletion postponed for 7 days
- every 500 hrs+ played PvE character's deletion postponed for 7 days
- first 5 PvE characters' deletion postponed for 7 days
The change would not apply to PvP characters for obvious reasons.
It shouldn't be much of a problem for aNet to introduce that kind of protection...

Any compagnie that respect its self should have backup. So they should be able to restore anything, they are just to lazy to do it.
They are able to track item dupe and gold transfert, they should know everything you got before your char get deleted

It would be a good way to keep someone's characters from deletion by a hacker, but it's also irritating (in some cases) if a player want's to delete one of his characters. Also, hackers can just log in on the character and delete all the items and armor the character is wearing.

I don't think so, since when your character is deleted, it is erased from the server (I think). That would mean all the items the character has are deleted aswell

it's not about the items!!!! this game is not about items. There is no item in GW that U wouldn't be able to aquire in a week!!
it' the achievements!!! I don't care if my Fow, eternal, cristalline or whatever was deleted as long as I got left with all the titles I spent thousands of hours on!!!!!
PS. there has been a discussion about it : http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10050978
but since then nothing has changed so I felt like making this thread with belief sth would finally move forward..!

They are deleted from the servers, but there is still information on them in your personal gw.dat so at the least, your character could be remade, although I don't know if it will have any items or hours. Should be same level though.

Best security against hacking: don't be stupid.
This idea would give me lots of problems if I wanted to make myself a new character, but I had to wait to get it deleted. I could delete the PvE character and have to wait 7 days to play my new character, or I could delete my PvP character and my PvE character, make my new PvE character, and then wait 7 days to play PvP again.
No thanks.

I'm sorry but waiting a week to delete a character because someone didn't protect their account doesn't seem fair. Plus, a week? Why not 24 hours or 3 days.
I like to make joke characters, or even 1 day PvP characters. So with this new system, I would have to wait, or just build up a huge amount of random PvP characters? All because people won't protect their accounts?

I'd sign this. ^
I wouldn't like to have to wait a week to delete a character though.

Blizzard doesn't seem to have any problems restoring hacked/deleted characters (hell, tell them you got hacked and they'll restore it even if you just deleted it and then regretted the decision. Happened to several friends). But then maybe that's because unlike ArenaNet, Blizzard treats their customers well.

Blizzard also has 10 million suckers paying $15 a month, they can afford to store character data well past after its been deleted.
There are certain perks you will lose if you play a game that doesn't charge monthly, and I believe that this is one of them.

I'm sorry, but if anyone is Brute Force hacking my NCSoft account (which can only be secured by a combination of numbers and letters) I am stupid?
This option should be already in the game, looking at the terribad security from NCSoft.

I can have 9999999999999999 letters password and I can have my e-mail box protected by another 9999999999999999999 letters password and still... I can get keylogged!!!!
it's not about intelligence or stupidity... it's about some way of protecting the time we spent playing GW

Yah, I make alot of temporary PvE and PvP chars, having to wait a week? no thank you.
There's no ffing point to that, sweep your computer every now and then for keyloggers, and if you get brute forced, sucks for you?
Happened to me too, and meh, it's just a game.
