Make it an option so "the ROLE playing purists" who loves to pick up gold can do it, and people who have real lives and things to do can save some time and have it automatically picked up.

It's not LAZINESS.
The process is already semi-automated, this just makes it fully automated.
The dislike of tedium is not equivalent to laziness.
Auto-loot gold is a good idea.
I don't however think items should be handled that way.

Personally I find it often slows down the action, but maybe its just me. Should I have to decide between moving backwards an aggro circle to get a gold drop or catching up to my group? I don't know.

Also, that pile 101 gold coins on the ground is going to be auto-split when you loot it.
It's not like your char gets all of it, so seems to me ANet should just skip to the chase and have ALL coin drops auto-looted.
Also takes out one more in-game item that has to be spawn on screen

Reminds me of the auto pickup hack in Diablo... It was just as silly there as it is here...
There are a couple of reasons...
Not the least of which is WHO gets the auto loot? the leader? the person closest to it? the person that made the killing blow? This is relevant because of the fact that who picks it up makes the extra gold piece when not even...
Party of 8 gets 163 gold drop... 7 get 20 gold 1 who picks it up gets 23 gold.
now I know its not much, but it would be bitched over. lol
Besides its really not THAT big a deal to click on the gold on the ground now is it?
The LAST thing I want to see is GW becoming another Diablo Fiasco with mods and hacks galore... What happened in Diablo was the only people that played it was the people that hacked, thus no legitimate game play was left. and thats just SAD!

some thing that would be good tho is like a target nearest item. like when you press c or v but for gold and item. then you would have to press space to pick it up. i hate having to use my mouse....

Even though i have shared an opinion here earilier i though i would also point out that its not likely to happen as it would encourage scripting botting further since it would cut down on several more lines of script needed to pick loot "manually", making script botting more easier than it is now and more popular.
So its not likely to happen despite a lack of popularity for the idea alone.

the only remotely reasonable way to change gold loot drops is....... to make all adjacent gold to pile into one. and even that isnt enough, so dont bother?
i personally have "next drop" hot keyed to ; so its ; space ; space for me... not very complicated.

I never pick gold with other players, they do that for me!
I'd rather like this other thing:
- Click on an item that is not saved for you will make it go for the character that owns it. (An option will be in F11 to disallow people picking the items for you) Then the player can drop it then and it will available for everybody.
- Make heores pick items! Added to the preovious option you'll have three party member picking stuff for you (hey, you share the loot, they use weapons you give them!). Of course, they won't pick things if you are moving or there are enemies near.

Well, I just got done with Assault on Beknur Harbor where you fight off 6 waves of skales numbering up to 16 skales per wave.
What's screwed up is that all that gold from all those skales just lies on the ground and you don't get time to loot it. Ya, 15 seconds at end of battle, woohoo!
And to the silly person that says it's easy to loot in this game, it's not, it's a pain in the rear. A pain in the ass.
See, if ANet is going to have the gold split automatically as they do now then they may as well go all the way. Because running around like a hen pecking at the ground is not fun.
And this has nothing to do with becoming Diablowhateeverwhothehellcares, this isn't asking for allowing mods or making it any easier for botting.
At present time, you can target nearest item in the game and space bar to loot. I can't see bots having a problem performing that action over and over, humans would though. I do.
It sucks.
Auto loot gold:
-Less server load because no spawns needed for coins
-Less player fatigue and annoyance.
-Fits the streamlined philosophy of Guild Wars.
-In no way does it change gameplay mechanics but improves playability.

I really don't care enough about the extra gold piece to quibble over who gets it. I also don't understand how this would encourage hacking or anything like that. I don't see how clicking a mouse less is considered lazy considering the context: I am already sitting in front of a screen like a vegetable.

Is this doable? What do you all think?

You're joking, right? A system to pick up gold for us? Not that lazy, sorry.

Only change that would be nice to see is for a line to appear saying "101 gold has dropped" just like when an item drops. Sometimes you just dont notice drops and all it would be nice to see that especially when your out adventuring alone.

Ha QFT! Currently, I get around this by waiting for other people to pick the gold up for me :-) I have better things to do than click and point at bags of gold... like... play the game?

The original suggestion was to just auto pickup gold.
/signed
This doesn't affect the regular item drops.
However I am curious how the splitting up would work? I was under the impression that if the gold does not split evenly the person who picked up the gold gets the leftover gold.

Well spoken Kuldebar Valiturus. Diablo was a debacel because of the way the game was set up, which made it open to hacks. Guild Wars is phenominally secure and everything that could be hacked is on the server side, so it's not happening.
It doesn't encourage bots. If someone can code a bot, it really takes very little effort for them to toss in the extra lines needed to pick up gold. Even I can do that, and my programming experience is flimsy.
At the end of the day, it's really just a matter of whether or not you like picking up gold or not.
Personally, I don't. I need all the money I can get, and when my team is rushing further on, I can't be seen running back to get a bag of gold when they're already engaged in the next battle. I need to get up there and help.
/signed for auto-pickup of gold.

Meh. Takes me 2 keypresses from one hand to pickup some gold. Takes me so long and so much effort I often do it during a fight.
Look at your User Interface options please. You might be amazed at what you can do with them.

I can say this /is/ pretty annoying, although the more annoying thing is when you realize a football field's distance away you forgot to pick up an item. I'd suggest being able to just click on the gold (or item(s)) and you automatically have it.
Either way, /signed, as long as there's some message that says "your party shares x gold" so you know the monster dropped it.

I've always wanted a feature similar to what Dungeon Siege has: a keypress command that makes you pick up all coins and items reserved for you within your radar. Would make things a lot easier, and for people who enjoy picking things up individually (or anyone yearning for carpal tunnel), they can do that and ignore the feature.
