If it's not crunch time, I will heal a pet. Why not? Moar damage, enemy fodder, and I can afford to do it.

YOU healing a pet is different than a HERO healing a pet.
the hero will heal it even if other party members need healing.
So we really dont need to know who will heal a pet and who wont.

Can the game distinguish between an Ally and a Pet? I highly doubt that is possible. If you have a way to allow me to target a team mates pet without finding it among 10 minions and 6 monsters, and without having it be an Ally, then I would consider it. Currently, you just want to have heroes ignore a pet.

Personally, it seems to me that you just don't know how to use pets or set up hero builds. I don't use a pet often, but am always glad when I have one that the heroes/hench will heal it. If I have a friend use a pet, or even a hero, I do not see energy problems from my heroes healing the pets.

Show me how a toggle can work, and I'll consider it. Until then, I still see the pet as an Ally, and I do not want the allies to be removed from hero/hench healing under any circumstances.

lol I personally dont need you consider it.
But first of all anything is possible.
Pet can still be in ally list without being healed by heroes.
Second I understand build and how to use them tyvm.
Me using a build doesnt matter with heroes healing a pet.
If you understand programming at all you would realize that this could be done and with not very much effort.
But AGAIN YOU dont have to use the feature.
but for those of us that think the other Hero/Hench and the player controlling them are more important to heal then a pet this would be nice to have.

They have an AI! Of course they are going to heal pets! Especially if no one else cares about healing them, lol! As a matter of fact, it's good that they heal pets, because that gives the ranger less time to worry about the animal and more time thinking about how to kill this freaking thing! Lol! I say, let them heal. And if the animal keeps getting beat up a lot, best take it out and buff it, or don't let it fight at all. I think that's a solution, but honestly, I'm not so sure if it's a good one. Lol!

lol. I was only responding to someone elses post my OP has nothing to do with real players.
Alot of monks do heal pets yes but alot don't
So maybe you should stop trolling and add something useful.

Which would be your choice to allow Heroes to heal your pets.
I dont know why I have to keep saying this.
If you want them to heal pets then fine a toggle would allow you to do this while the people who dont want them to heal them can turn it off.

I heal pets if everyone else is looking fine and dandy. They're not my priority, but if they need it and I have the energy I'm happy to keep them alive. Anyway, best option for all if it's such a huge problem...don't take pets.

Heroes also heal minions...I don't see any problems with the way the AI is designed at the moment. I've never seen a problem with my heroes healing my pets, but then I never take my pet into a situation where they'd need excessive healing; for me my pet is less about the damage, and more about the chilling happily in the countryside together while doing some farming or questing.

Not to mention, if the ranger is doing their 'job' as the OP seems to think they should then the pet should be at full health and should therefore need no healing, which would also mean that the heroes won't heal it...If it doesn't need healing, they won't heal unless it's to cast an enchant, but I haven't found them casting too many enchants on pets personally. If the pet is on low health then it needs a heal, and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the AI doing it for you.

Theres nothing wrong with a toggle for those who dont want there heroes to heal the pets either.
And AGAIN I dont care if YOU heal a pet its not about HUMAN players healing a pet. theyre smart enough to know not to heal if theyre low on energy a hero is not.
People really dont get the whol toggle thing...it means if you want heroes to heal they will if not they wont. that simple.

Pets are Allies currently. A toggle to disable heroes from healing a pet would also mean they do not heal NPCs like Goren in Dasha Vestibule. Currently there is no way for the AI to distinguish between a pet and an NPC crucial to a quest/mission.

Removing the pet from the Ally box means they no longer function the same. This might be good, but that would depend on how they were changed. Since there is only the Party box and the Ally box, where would the pet be placed for easy targeting? Or would you have them remove the option for anyone to target the pets without finding them in the middle of a battle?

Since you apparently know so much about programming, please explain how they could allow NPCs to receive healing, but not a pet.

Started my first character, a ranger, over three years ago. Never had any energy problems as a result of henchies or heroes healing my pet.

In regard to heroes ..... two words .... Energy Management!

Regarding a workable toggle; I think MagmaRed covered that argument quite well.

Very easy.

using the same mechanics they use to heal someone with low hp but if ally = pet dont heal.
They have it in ally list Pet - name

No she really didnt. I just explained how it can easily be done.
In very short explaination.
And my heroes have e-man.
They run the same build I do when I monjk yet I never run out of energy they do. Because theyre wasting it on a pet.

if you think they are "wasting" energy on pets how about you know...not taking those pets.


never had an issue with monks healing pets OR minions for that matter (and sometimes i run 20 so.....)

If the pet dies then the pet's master has all skills disabled and is useless.

Equaly useless to a monk who refuses to heal a pet. /kkthnxbyebye.

If it's not broken don't fix it... you claim it's simple, but no one else seems to want or need this feature. Why would Anet waste their time and resources on an addition that (to use your capitalization) only YOU feel a need for. If this were an issue then I say yes, by all meanst go ahead and create a toggle (although Magma Red has stated why this might be an issue), but changing an entire game mechanic just because YOU're heroes don't have enough energy management to heal your party and a pet seems a little bit silly don't you think?

You are only looking at it from YOUR perspective. Consider other possibilities.

1) Person does not want the heroes to heal the pets, they turn the option off.
2) Person does want the heroes to heal the pets, they leave the option turned on.
3) Person doesn't want heroes to heal pets, but does want them to use skills like Death Nova, Ancestor's Rage, etc. on them.

And I may be wrong, but I doubt the game can distinguish between Goren and Pet - Hearty Stalker. Both are allies, and there are way too many name options to make it a name issue alone.

I'd like to see how you handle person who wants option 3 above. Monks don't heal pets, but MM's Death Nova them, Rits Rage them, and Mesmers Visage them. How many options for how many classes are there to interact with the pet in ways other than healing? Can the game allow things outside of healing to occur, yet restrict the healing.

You want this to occur, I don't care. However, I don't think you are seeing my point, you only see that I /unsign.

I know that this would be very possible and not difficult.
to pamelf its not just me. It may be me on the forums but not even half of all GW players use this forum. I have heard many people complain about this.
And again my heroes DO have e-man. I know how to play the game very well tyvm.
But im done explaining how this would be very easy you guys post what you want im bored with it.
Ive had to say the same thing over and over and you just dont get it.

What happens if you are in a party with another person and you both have pets. You don't want heroes to heal your pet but the other person does. Who controls the "toggle"?
