make the armor unrelated to professions
Wouldnt it be nice that we could use every armor there is and
not be bounded to one profession.
That Would give us a opportunity to mix and make a great diversity in what we
could wear.
Just an idea

That would probably be untenable in this game, but I suspect that something similar could happen in GW2.

No.
Players wouldn't be able to distinguish professions in PvP gameplay as easily.

What pumpkin pie said. Also, Sardelac thread in Riverside.
Armor models are pretty much designed for quick recognition of class in PvP, but character models don't really have to be. I'm sure there's quite a few people who'd rather not have their male warrior look "fat," nor some of the female assassins look like they may have an eating disorder.

Good, that'd help raise the amount of effort needed in PvP a bit. Increase the need for alertness and observation, y'know.
Speaking of appearances, I want to roll a PvE monk but the male character models are terrible, as are their faces.

Yeah 15k female Hydromancer would look great on a male warrior...
The idea couldn't be implemented without a complete overhaul of all armour art because a lot of armour sets are re-skins of the character's model (like female ele obsidian). Most models are very diverse.

Didn't Jeff Strain say something about this being implemented in GW2 in his German interview?
From here
"But we confirmed that Guild Wars 2 a "robust" craft system. In addition, equipment such as weapons and clothing, a much more important role and no longer bound to be classes-the war in Guild Wars 1 still completely different."
The translation is crap but you get the idea.

BRB, need to barf. (And now I'll be stuck with the image in my head all day long, thank you >_>;;;... x])
@ OP: Sorry but the idea doesn't work in this game, unlike in Diablo2 where you CAN EQUIP armor made for another "class" (ie. strenght-based weapons on another class than a barbarian, you CAN do it) if you meet the general requirement. I don't know how to explain it, but it just wouldn't work in GW.

Mesmer armor would so totally fit to male warriors, indeed.
Not really...
The usual way is that certain armor item drops look different on different classes. This would include that armor items "drop" in addition to being crafted for materials and gold.

That defeats armors purpose of being made for that single class...
you still got chaos gloves and bandanas etc though... everyone can use those
