/ubersigned, and i don't understand why this wasn't implemented to begin with. i've seen RTS games with better buddy list systems, and MMO's should be far superior to any RTS in that respect.

As an officer in a mid sized alliance, I need this. I get numerous request for help each day, and i need to be able to see who's who and from which guild the request came from.
Additionally, I'm in a guild that has had to split three times now to hold all of the members, and since they are all considered to be the same guild by the leader and officers, it just makes sense to be able to see all of our guildies without having to spam alliance chat for an attendence call.
Friends list is inadequate for this type of tracking as it will keep the person listed regaurdless of whether or not the person is in the guild/alliance.

This would be awesome, in my guild's alliance we've always talked that it would be fantastic to see who is online in ally guilds.

Need Ability To See Alliance Members
Ok, so a little history here.
I started with my first guild in July, 2006 - same time I started playing the game.
Through late November of 2006, we belonged to 2 different alliances.
Have to say the experience was HORRIBLE. My god; the spamming going on - this kids using crazy language that would make any adult blush - the lack of who is who from each guild - the sheer chat was out of control and turned many of my members OFF. I ended up losing people as a result. I tried another alliance to see if that would help. NOPE. Same problem.
I can't count how many times someone said "is an officer from xxx guild on?". Only to have no clue who any of the officers were. 10 guilds - 100 out of control potentials in each guild. Gah - it was a circus! You know why - because tools are missing to help people be more aware of who others were in the other guilds, who the officers where in those guilds, etc.. I ended up having to create an alliance website, created a forum to "report members here". Do you have any idea how much work we did to get around these issues? I'm sure you do - many of you have done it yourself. But why I ask? ANET has not put in the right tools to enable players to better team, communicate and establish relationships in the game. That's why. A guild leader is practically BLIND of being aware who else in the alliance is on. Frankly it's ridiculous.
So, I took matters into my own hands (as I do love this game and I am creative that way [to overcome barriers]). I created my own alliance. Then I created multiple guilds through multiple accounts. IF ANET won't give me the tools to accomplish an EFFECTIVE Alliance system where players have opportunities at creating better bonds of friendship, to truly take advantage of the potential that is found in having 1,000 potential members work together for commmon interestes and goals, then I will do it myself. And that is what I did.
Today; I have an alliance lead by myself; with 6 guild accounts I am leader of; staffed with over 400 players. Of the 6 we have 3 PvE guilds, 1 PvP guild, 1 Farming/Running guild, and a final guild for players who are on the game less often than a few weeks. It's a MEGA Guild. And oh my GOD does it work incredibly well. This model truly allows the guilds to work as one; for members to tap into the resources of all players who are online across all of the guilds; to work and act as one true group of friends who take pride in their alliance. We now have 13 countries represented in the alliance - and we continue to grow.
Still, throughout all of this, there is a common component that is missing. It's the component that was missing before I went down this path and created my own MEGA guild/alliance. What's missing is the ability for players to SEE who is online across the guilds. While you can chat in alliance chat; you don't have an awareness of WHO IS (or who is not) online and available. That's too bad. It acts as a deterent for players from being able to group and work together more effectively. While alliance chat does work, it could be so much better if the ANET Developers provided more awareness in the game. A global ALLIANCE Roster will do the trick.

i dont think it would be to hard, click on the guild in alliance and it opens the same roster that the guildies see. Just another tab to create.

I cannot recognize anyone in Alliance chat... a roster with the alias would surely help.

Alliance Communication Options
Lately I have been throwing ideas around about possible ways to improve alliance communications. I realize that we have Alliance Chat which is fine, but I think improvements would be appreciated by all alliances and their leaders. Here is a list of possible improvements and explanations for your review and comments.
1) Enable an Alliance Roster- by this I mean being able to select a guild in your alliance and then have the option to observe what members of that guild are online. This would be much easier than the present way of asking in A/C what officers and leaders are on as well as the other option of putting these members in your friends list.
2) Enable an Alliance Officers Chat- The reason behind this is that whenever any allaince issues (problems etc) come up, it would be more productive and easier to have an Alliance Officers Chat to work out any problems or issues instead of doing this by whisper or in open A/C. It may also assist in stopping problems in an Alliance before they start.
3) Bring back the Guild Officers Chat- Although this is not Alliance related, I found it very useful to have for a guild. See suggestion #2 for related reasons.
*Most of these have been touched on already, but I believe these 3 would be of great benefit to all alliances*

And maybe something that looked a little like this:
Leaders
Athrun Feya [ONE]
Someone else [xxx]
Officers
character one [xxx]
charcter two [xpx]
character three [ONE]
Members..
etc
In my experiences, with alliances, knowing when officers or leaders have been online has been very useful.

Really needed this since the start of alliances. I'm surprised it hasn't already been implemented.

I have this very same problem atm. I am an alliance leader and there are 3 guilds in my alliance that I am not sure if they are just not on at the same time that I am or if they just don't use alliance chat. My alliance is primarily PvE, so I can't go by faction amount. I would like a way for atleast the Alliance leader to see who is on from the different guilds, how many ppl are in the guilds, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, when the last time each person in the guild was on. Only last week one of these 3 guilds had two ppl actually use the alliance chat for the first time since joining, and the rest of us in the alliance wondered why they hadn't used the chat before. The response was that the guild only had two ppl left in it and neither had been in game for a couple of months....
Being able to see the ppl in each guild and when they were last on would sooooo be helpful for us alliance leaders!
