God no.
GW is not about 1337 or overpowered loot.
Period.
If that sucks for you go play a game where loot does matter.
It's like people playing a FPS and moaning that they have to shoot guns and stuff.
No...just no....

PvE is already shallow compared to other games, and it would be a huge step in actually gaining interest in the game for people who are already bored of it and grind for titles (90% of players). plz.

Let's do it for the hell of it. I don't like grind, but I do like massive numbers flying around the screen Besides it'll be a fun addition.

Well done Sherlock.
But...GW is not a RPG defined by loot.
Period.
I like loot too.I play RPG's where loot really matters and love it.
GW is not that and it's awesome as a direct result of denying that mechanic.
Leave it be thx.

Sad to say that your idea is not my cup of tea. The guys have made a solid point. The purpose of your new weapons will do nothing to cure the immediate problem. This is a losing argument.
Just give up, Rocky! You can't win!

it would turn into WoW where how good you are relies on your equipment and not necessarily your build.

OP's idea is patently idiotic. Forcing people to grind for fully effective weapons is not a good thing. The "maximally effective weapons are easy to acquire, but aesthetically superior weapons take some grind" remains one of GW's best steps forward in MMORPG design.
However, from this pile of dung, comes a gem:

The only thing like that I would agree with is to add a PvE upgrade slot to items.
Then, the PvE slot could have properties like:
- Highly salvageable.
- Increased price.
- +X% Damage vs race. (PvE only)
- +Damage unconditional. (PvE only)
- +1..3 damage reduction (PvE only. Shields only)
- +5..15% chance to block attacks (PvE only. Shields only)
And things like that.
That way, the Ebon Vanguard weapons won't be as bad having that fxed +20% vs charr, since the other 3 upgrade slots would be freed.
And PvE upgrades won't be as fixed as PvP ones, they could have a wider range of values, so it would give PvE items a little push in value.
This could also be applied to green items, so they could have PvE-only fixed properties that can't be found in normal drops, making them really unique. PvE equipment could have properties like:
- Rago: +1 to Fire magic. (PvE Only)
- Forgotten set: +30% Damage/Defense(Weapon/Offhand) vs Abbadon Demons (PvE only) (The max in other PvE items would be +20%)
- Droknar's set: +30% Damage/Defense vs Destroyers (PvE only)
- Deldrimor set: +30% Damage/Defense vs Titans (PvE only)
- Ceremonial set(Factionsendgame): +30% Damage/Defense vs Shiro'ken (PvE only)
- Icy dragon sword: +10 Cold damage (PvE Only).
- Ogre-Slaying Knife: +9 damge vs Ogres (PvE Only) (Yeah, I know it's already there, but it would be 'mode' to PvE slot)
- Lyssa's Bedlam: Heals +25 Health when losing enchantments. (PvE Only)
- Grenth's Grasp: Deals +10 damage to Enchanted foes. (PvE only)
- Vera: +10% attack speed (PvE only)
- Eldritch Sword: Chaos damage (PvE Only)
- Exalted Aegis: Melee attackers take 5 Holy damage. (PvE only)
And so on.
But PvE only weapons? No, no. We are already short in storage space to have to keep items for PvE and for PvP. The same should be used, just working differently.

This is a brilliant idea. The biggest shortcoming in the GW weapon system is that, by and large, weapon mods don't matter. Sure, for the sake of fully minmaxing your build, using vampiric over sundering will get you a DPS increase. But it's not one that's big enough to write home about and it doesn't have a fundamental impact on how your build works. GW's vampiric mod is not, for example, D1/D2's life-steal mod -- a mod that completely altered the relationship between defense and offense. I long for the days of D2 when your gear's mods were integral to your build. So, I really like the idea of loading up all GW weapons (even/especially pre-existing weapons) with extra mod slots that can be filled with mods that could have a meaningful impact on gameplay.

so if this were to take place we could have some out of game gold buyers running around saying "my red obsidian sword that I payed 1,500,000 gold for kills Shiro with 38 whacks and your gold long sword takes 41!!!! nanananna!!!"
no thanks
(yes those are stupid examples for weapons and I did not do any math, but you get the point )

so the guy who plays 8 hours a day should have inherently better weapons?
didn't we get past this when the made guild wars as a COMPETATIVE online role playing game instead of mmorpg.
it's called competative, because everyone can compete, not just the upper 5%

I henceforth throw this idea into the bag of threads that want huge level caps, persistent worlds and uber loot discrimination.
Go play WoW or the plethora of MMORPG's that already cater to your requests, like I do when I desire that fix.
Please stop trying to morph GW into the MMORPG generic blueprint you can easily garner elsewhere.
Many thanks.

Why have special weapons that grant extra damage and give other advantages? These will never be accessible to casual players.

I don't care at all for the idea in the OP, but MithranArkanere's suggestion is a good one. The first thing I thought of when I read this thread was replacing the OP's idea with PvE-only inscriptions. Any weapons using these would be disabled in PvP.

There won't be need to disable the whole weapon, just the Upgrade. That way even unique weapons with a PvE Only property would work in PvP as any other PvP weapon.

I like Mithran's suggestions to a point, my only concern is that there would be no advantage in using "normal" weapons anymore, you'd always want to use your vs whatever set, meaning more grind for more weapons (goodbye storage space), I like how you have the option right now of getting the +20% vs, or +10AL vs.
Maybe there should be a trader or merchant or something who sells you such inscriptions/mods. It's a good system already in place, but face it, excluding certain mods such as charrslaying which are obtainable through collector salvages, how hard is it to find mods of pruing, vs giants, and so on.
