And what /whois would tell us?
The profession? We can see it in the Health bar.
The level? We can see it in the Health bar?
The skills it has unlocked or titles? That would be too much output.
As Stc95 said, a /whereis would be better, but only as long as they change the friend list to work like this:
- Friends:
* They require agreement from the player added, if they do not agree, they are moved stay in the Acquaintance list.
* You can only have a friend if a friend has you. If they delete you from their list, they are moved to your Acquaintance list.
* Small size (20..50 items)
* Friend tags are colored green in towns and outposts.
* And for friends that have been in your list for more than a week:
** You can invite friends to your party regardless of where they are.
** You can check your friend locations (/whereis)
** You can trade with your friends regardless of where you are.
** You can invite for free to your guild hall.
- Acquaintance list:
* Bigger list.
* If the list is full, you are prompted to replace an existing name or save it to an offline namelist in a text file called <character name>.txt. But that name list won't check name changes, so, unlike the online list, the .txt listed names could become obsolete.
* Does not require permission.
* Does not have /whereis option.
* Acquaintance tags are colored cooper in towns and outposts.
(Guild tags would remain gold, and alliance tags would be colored silver)

If someone is on your ignore list, they can't see you as online anyway.
If someone is in your friends list, then you should be in theirs as well. This means they can see if you are on, and PM you if they want to meet you somewhere.
I simply see no reason to add this. Ignore list has a limit that can cause some people problems with the number of people you want to add, but I have not heard of anyone having a problem with the Friends list. Is it that hard to message someone, or do people really want to stalk?

No thanks, I enjoy my "alone" time where I can do my own thing without some random person who saw my videos on YouTube or read my newspaper finding me begging to tag along. And if someone is on your ignore list they shouldn't even be allowed to see if you're online instead of it saying "so and so is ignoring you". For the reasons mentioned and of course the stalker issue, /notsigned.

Until then, /halfsigned. As others said, too much stalking. But if it's for finding where friends are, then it's not as big of a problem, as it can get annoying asking where people are for various reasons.

Agreed. It's a good concept, but as it is invades a bit too much unwarranted privacy.

QFT. I see it being used as an aid to track the movements of your associates. That way you can kind of track who is hanging out with whom in what areas within your guild/alliance/circle of friends.
Basically information that people could ask, in chat, or a tell, if it was any of their GD business.
Which generally, it ain't.
