sounds similar to away messages on aim.
maybe send a short message to your party when you change your status? "Tiamat Saelyn has changed their status to AFK (cat knocked over garbage can brb)" and maybe put a little symbol next to the name in the party window until they come back. this would be more efficient than just typing it in team chat because 2 minutes later everyone has amnesia and is wondering why someone's name is greyed out lol. /signed |

There's been a few times when I would have loved to be able to have a custom message - always when I've had/bid on an online auction and don't want a buyer/seller to think I'm ignoring them or being difficult if they log in when I'm not able to drop what I'm doing immediately (or am not actually there).
"AFK - Nine Rings" rather than having to set my status to Offline. "Vanquishing X, may not see/hear messages during a fight" - at least if I miss the message, they have a reason for *why* I'm seeming to ignore them, an indication that I am actually "there", and that a resend of the pm is probably advisable if I don't reply  ...(note: I have missed pm's during fights before, but fortunately not for auction-related stuff yet).

In general I kinda just wish there were more options...
"brb" - lets your PMer that you won't be away for long "tabbed out/working at my desk" - same idea "busy" - just a more truthful alternative to the "away" message (i.e. you're busy and not just away)

Are we trying to turn guild wars into a chat session? I'm sorry, but I'm not that popular, actually, my name would'nt mean anything to other people, they would say dragon who? Anyways, it is TMI. Away is fine, I really don't care what you are doing, knowing your not there is fine with me. To implement a full message system would be a waste of time. Maybe in GW 2 (If it was there I personally would not use it, but if you want to go ahead. I'm not here is fine with me).
This boils down to personal preferance. I even hate on AIM when people give a novel about what they are doing! And you KNOW that will happen. You wont get "Im runnin to droks, dont PM" youll get "hey, Im running to droks for 2k each player. This takes me X time and I wont be back because I am going to the beach after with my Girlfriend. After that Im gonna..." yea, dont care (and most people dont read past the first sentance). And if you want a character limit on it, then we will see a post here its too short, then a post that we should also include smileys, then a post that we should include noises too! It opens a flood gate, no thanks. I dont want to hear Farts coming from Komma Kommander when I go to PM him and see a stinking pile of crap... /not signed |

seems like good idea
/dnd vanquising or HA etc etc make it reply like a guild announcement thingy so if u are offline it will still say something haha |
