The Fire Imp is given to those that have an account with all 3 campaigns, the expansion and the 'last edition' status.
Since everyone that has that has the Imp, Anet has betrayed no one.
Just get a pre-paid credit card and get the 'last edition' status for your account.
I did so more than a year ago when I got the 'Million edition' upgrade.

I did the same I think the upgrade was around £3, would be good if it was still available "haven't checked" better yet if it checked your game status and just gave you the imp if you had all the requirements anyway storebought or not.
I do hope they alter the imp to allow 20th lvl to use it and for that matter create a couple more summoning stone types as its the perfect solution to the disappeared or afk party member.
To that end it might improve pugs, you would probably have to limit numbers to prevent parties fielding 8 of them at one time.

OK SHORTLY:
anet make the fire imp for lvl 20's (optitional) and make it availible for people who got all 3 campaigns (compulsory). How do we know that this is not another stunt to get people to buy the game. FOR ONCE LISTEN TO THE PLAYERS!

It would be fun if one-use versions randomly dropped from monsters.
They would activate upon pickup, so people won't hoard them to sell them or exploit them.

You could always give them a ridiculous drop rate. Like .05% xD

Imp seams to be fine to me...
I've been playing for 40+months and created a perma pre char just to get some fun out of the imp
