They did with armors, so it's possible to do the same with weapons.
But the thing it's that there are amny combintions, specially in Staves, Wands and Off-hands, that have no equivalence. So that would be impossible without adding more inscriptions and offhand, wand and stave upgrades to the lists.
The easier thing would be letting be the old drops, or add a way to inscribe an item by also losing all its properties.

Anet should have made inscriptions worldwide when they released it.

Retroactivity is what Anets lacks more. It's a shame yes.
But we must understand that it would be a hell of a change, with more than 500 areas to check and the problem with the existing items.

Simple, inscriptions were for the pvp freaks.
I do however find it annoying farming all day for a 13^50.

You want a prefect weapon?
Get outside the town and collect 5 rat tails, bring that to the NPC, he'll be happy to craft you some 15^50 or 20/20 set.
Now you want a perfect rare skin too? It just wont be rare anymore. Everyone will have one.
It would be really boring. All characters will look the same. Think to the consequences plz. Thats not only "I want all, now!". Its about having your chars different than others.
BTW, when all your heroes, including those you never use, will have req9 perfect golds, you will undestand WHY we want old school items: there is just _nothing_ else worth something. Its like dropping whites all the time. "Great, another worthless req9 perfect stuff. 267g at merchant, really nice. Too bad, Ive no use with that gold"
Go figure.
Now plz close this thread, this is a complete non sense from the start.
PS: inscribables are ugly. "Inscription: "I have the power" ". Doh! Useless line in weapon description. Bad. /fail. I'll pay double the price to NOT see that line.

Reason is that if you take out uninscribable perfect weapons, all the elitist pricks will quit.
We all know GW survives because of the elitist pricks.

Don't worry, the Elitits pricks will move soon to GW2.
Even if the change is done when GW2 comes up. It is a change that one day or another will be done.

The few things I find interesting never drop, so it won't make any difference for me as far as the skins go. I will never be able to get what I want through game play and that appears to be what ANet wants - disgruntled, disatisfied, and angry customers.
I argued for customizable stuff long before it happened - whether here or elsewhere, and it should have been retroed.

Good Ridence. I will even stock their bar with Liquour de Scarab Venom to help ease their passing.

I haven't read all 20 pages, but personally I felt that those multi-req staves/offhands and dual isncript shields were always broken/bugged from the start, then they kinda confirmed that stuff like that shouldn't exist in NF and EotN. That stuff like that still drops is kinda hinky, they ought to fix them. You spent 100s of ecto on a obviously glitched broken item, tough tits.
Also, there's no good reason weapons in Tyria or cantha shouldn't be inscribable. Rarity should be skin based, functionality should be separate. The poll up there obviously favors inscribable stuff everywhere by a wide margin. I thought they would implement it when they fixed the armor, but guess it was too big to fix.

I think the big problem is that drop rate is set for each area, so adding a chest wth adifferent drop table is 'easy', but changing more than 300 areas would be a hell of a job.
Yet, still, is something to be done.

I agree with the first couple of lines... up to "20/20 set". What current rare skins are not already available in inscribable form? The rare skins will still be rare skins with the globalisation of inscriptions.
I cannot see the point of something that is not inscribable having a greater value than the same skin that can be. It limits the item in it's usefulness.

That's just cutting your own nose off to spite your own face. Someone already said that no-one can see if the weapon you are holding is inscribed or not. If you get the chance to buy that uber rare skin and add your own mods to make it perfect for just how you want to play who is going to know (or care)?
Inscriptions give the player more choice. That's a good thing.

Answer: No they wouldn't become inscribable and yes they would be worth alot of money. It already happened twice anyways with the Damage always weapons back in 2005 and later on in 2006 when they updated the shields with better bonuses.
Since the idea is for HM, tyrian/canthan non insc weapons are STILL there. With this solution would make both sides happy imo.

What happens with +15% unconditional/without penalties weapons? Do they suddenly become inscriptions? They're probably the rarest item in the game.

One inscription is lame enough, The -2/-2 or -2/-3 shields would look ugly as heck with two. Lol or like above, what would they call a 15^always mod?
Inscriptions have already destroyed the value of many non-inscribables, simply as a huge amount of players would rather buy the cheap inscribable counterpart. If anything, I would like to see non-inscribable Eternal blades drop with a damage modifier!
