The word damn being blocked
Damn isn't swearing, it is even in the name for a GW monster, Damned Cleric. I have filter off but I said it in Alliance Chat where we have a no swearing rule and a load of carebears said don't use the f word. I then had to explain I meant as in the thing beavers make. Unblock?

Tell them that more than the dreaded "F" word is blocked, and that if they've got their filter on why do they care. No point in updating it when they just need to know the word isn't visible under the filter.

The point is that it's used in a GW Monster's name, it seems silly to be blocked if it isn't swearing...

In some strange twisted way, it's different context. Saying "Damn you!" is more swearyish than something being damned inherently. Technically it is a swear, or as wikipedia says a "moderate profanity." Which is enough. You don't want little five year olds who shouldnt be playing the game anyway running around saying "Goddamnit!"

Ass is fine as an animal name. Calling someone an ass is an insult. Please extrapolate.

Yeah, it's dumb. I remember seeing a screenshot of someone spamming "I'm attacking ****ed cleric!" back in '05.

Okay, if carebears get scared when someone says damn that keep it like that. But if someone says damned or damnation or w/e religious stuff, then unblock it if that is possible.

Ass is an animal.
Bitch is an animal.
Bastard is a result of a child being born to unmarried people.
However, they are all also used as swear words. Context is what makes it a swear, not the word itself. I don't have a problem with the language filter, and I don't see any reason having a particular word, like damn, removed from it would be worthwhile. Not like the word is used outside of its swear uses or specific instances few people who play computer games would find themselves in. Perhaps a reason WHY it should be removed would make it more clear as to what the intent is.

If someone is insulting you and you have filter on then it may be mistaken for the f word. And you get lots of people in GW insulting each other. The f word is worse than saying damn, I find damn not very insulting, this would help avoid confusion.

If you were talking about beavers, that would imply you knew something about beavers, including how to spell the word describing the structure they're associated with building. The word there would be spelled d-a-m, dam. (DAMN, A Leprechaun bet me to it...)
So I can only conclude that you did mean the use of the word damn but perhaps not in the context of an insult.
And yes, I've experienced the same issue with the damned cleric.
And call Anet two-faced, the Vabbian Miner uses it in a sequence before a quest in Tihark Orchard:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Vabbian_Miner
In fact they use it quite liberally throughout the series:

Just love it when someone starts yet another justification post about swearing.
For all I care you can swear all you like but the game prohibits it so live with it.
All your posts do is let other people make a judgement call about what sort of person you are likely to be.
How much they would like to be in a party with you and best all what guild wants you as a member.
All in all you can pick up a load of information from these posts.
Hmm a Beaver Dam A Damned Cleric and Damn.
Thank goodness I had an education and learned the difference between them or I would be confused.

Going through Tyria again, Grast in Piken has a quest where he's talking about the "damnable" Charr, or something to that effect.
Of all things, damn as a word is the most moderate swear I can think of. Considering the game box says you shouldn't be under 13 playing, and people that age are entering the world of middle and high school where they'll hear profanities out the wazoo, damn is kind of on the fence as to whether it should be filtered or not.
I keep my filter off, because with casual friends and such, or if it's a heated match between friendly guilds and whatnot, a bit of trash talking is good to get the blood flowing =p. The issue here seems to be that the alliance members have their filters on, which to them, damn and the F-bomb would appear the same. What I don't understand is why they care if you have the filter on to begin with?
