Before Nightfall and GW:EN were released, people farmed Tombs with an A/Me using Shadow Form. They couldn't maintain it 100%, but they could maintain it long enough to kill a group and retreat, wait a bit for recharge, then repeat. I'd be more than happy to see this return. Permanent Shadow Form has no purpose in my mind. At the very least, then need to make the health loss when it ends happen even when it is recast. Sure, having 40-50 health and invincibility will still allow you to continue, but it would at least be closer to what the game intended when it was first presented.
Perma is abused. Should SF be usable, yes, abusable, no.

I've argued this before: You don't have to use the skills in these certain ways. If you don't like to play perma SF...don't play perma SF. Nobody's forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to do...UNTIL ANET NERFS things then they're forcing people to play differently than how they want. I like to spend 5 minutes running to jaga, crack open a 6-pack and just veg-farm for a couple hours, then go do some quests, vanquishes, Jade Quarry, or trade in kamadan getting my warrior drunk as well...true casual farming, all the while making the money-grind titles a lot less grind. When a couple hours of farming the items directly nets me double or triple what I'd get if I bought them with the money I'd earn doing quests/missions/etc, I'm going to stick to it and yes i'll call it less grind. That and it's fun to asplode some vaettir.
Then again, I can still do it, but it's much slower. The run is 50% longer, each round is 50% longer and I've actually had problems keeping SF up because I'm distracted with other things. That's how it goes, but oh well.
I digress....stop nerfing fun builds for people just because other people don't like them. Nobody's forcing them to use non-fun builds. If they can't get groups for certain areas because of these fun-builds being dominating...perhaps they should search around for guilds and friends who enjoy doing it their way. As for as ruining the economy....lol ectos haven't changed one bit since the SF nerf...if anything they've gone down. Good job, you kicked a good portion of the playerbase away with your nerf-happy ways, and didn't do a damn thing for the economy.
Shadow form is not god-mode, it's not a win-button, it's not invincibility. PBAoE, signets, touch skills still get through. Traps. Etc. There are areas that were obviously inserted to be farmed. They made it so only certain builds COULD farm them. One of those builds is perma-shadow form. They nerfed shadow form so it dealt less damage, but at the same time they gave two very useful PvE skills that boosted the damage output. Pretty much crowded the bar. Fine...didn't need those two extra slots anyway. If you want to keep perma-sf from certain areas, put sig of disenchant on some mobs. Problem solved. You did something similar with Stormclouds, made a decent effort with Twisting Jaws, and succeeded very well with Trample. It was actually work to get a perma-sf to an area where they could make some decent profit. Some team builds required a team effort, even with the perma. Permas in UW SC needed to be skilled in their jobs to complete the areas. It's not a mindless god-mode bot button. but you had to go ahead and make it harder on everyone but the people who don't do anything but farm perma SF. So much for catering to the casual player...take away the easiest way they could have made decent cash....rich get richer.

Considering that Shadow Form is one skill; using Deadly Paradox and an Essence / Glyph of Swiftness (That's 3/2+roughly 1k(?) in terms of skills), allows full maintainability and defense to 90% of the game mechanics while maintaining heavy mobility, I don't see why it shouldn't be nerfed. Maintainable immunity to most fields of damage shouldn't exist in any game unless there is some kind of forfeit, for example on Saint's Row 2 if you use a cheat (even the joke ones), your achievements get disabled permanently if you save.

Pointless , use inverse logic . Lets guess they nerf SF even more .... it will be worth .... nothin ? . An ELITE skill ( i dont know if u understand the meaning of that word ) that is ONLY used on farming, running and tanking .
Well there are so many other skills that are used for tanking and no one is barking , as well for running skills and now farming with perma is a bloody pain in the ass in about 60% of the zones u could farm with Sliver perma easily so whats the point ? . Who are these ppl that use false logic to cover their SF farming Hate ? i dont really care but please , some ppl here can see thru the smoke , dont try to use false logic , % and maths to cover a simple hate for SF

To be honest, I don't care whether SF gets nerfed or not. I just like seeing you all come here and QQ about it saying "omg these nerf sucks stop it plz lol." Gets me every time. With that said, time to go bug izzy to nerf SF. I'm about to submit ticket, pm anet staff, contribute to the wiki skill feedback, etc. etc. Time to have fun! Yeah!
The bottom line is ecto prices and what SF does to them.
That seems to be the sole reason for nerfing it, though I could be missing something here. It's hard to believe that the 85 gp white drops or the occasional 250 gp gold item I get is going to affect 'gw economy' like ectos and z-keys can.
Don't 'fix' the skill, fix the solo farming issue in UW by making it so that SF isn't maintainable in UW--either by disenchantment skills, or make it so that there are more monsters who can do damage through touch skills. SF doesn't need to be 'fixed' game-wide--it only needs to be 'fixed' in UW, if at all. If you really want to control ecto prices, make ecto drop from the end boss only and in limited amounts--that will decrease the supply rather quickly and drive the prices way up. Another alternative--create another ecto sink for some new uber-cool raniskran (i.e., 'thing', unspecified) that people really love, and that they'll love it so much they'll use the ectos for, thus raising the prices again.
Some times my guild mates are busy or are offline, and then I farm a bit to get the gold needed to earn the items for my HoM. It costs a ton of money to fill that thing. If I'm lucky, I'll get one maybe halfway done by the time GW2 comes out, even with the current incarnation of SF, because it costs so darn much gold to do it. I don't mind working hard to earn the stuff, but I can earn more solo farming than I can doing quests and dungeons. Since that's the case, better returns for time spent in the hard parts ot the game would be most welcome. If you want to encourage group play, then reward group play more than solo play with better drops for particularly the elite dungeons (and PLEASE increase the rewards for the Duncan end chest....)
I like playing assassin. I like playing it in groups and in solo-farming. I like playing it in PvE or AB. It's very fun either way. Please don't nerf my fun, Anet. Thanks.

So, because it's an elite skill it means it should be imbalanced? There's a lot of underpowered elites too, by the way.
