Be able to change status before logging in
Don't know if it's been brought up before. But I think it would be more useful if you could change your status before logging into the game. Sometimes you get replies before your even done loading. Or if your only get on to check something and you don't want to get into a conversation with someone.

I see the OP's point and I agree. Sometimes I want to appear offline however I can't switch characters without showing online and I kinda blow my cover.

/signed...the whole point is to prevent no-life scrubs with you on their friend's list messaging you the instant you log on asking you to help them with some normal mode noob island mission somewhere when you're looking to do something that's actually fun.

If you see the merit in this idea, then it's obviously worth making a thread for.

Can't remember where, but I do believe I saw that developers, moderators, or someone has the ability to do such a thing. Making it a global feature can't be that tough, and I'd like something like this.

Dont see the point?
the point is that maybe you feel like playing but you dont feel like talking to anyone at that time. This way you could do that.
I know I have days where I just want to be left alone.

a nice convenience but not necessary. only reason would be the ability to logon as offline without people noticing. do u have reasons to be snooping around unnoticed? lol

Would be alright but would be good for scammers now.
IF you could do that and your scammed by someone youll never find em now cuz they can be offline forever and youll never know what char theyr on making it impossile to report someone spec if they d/c to get away before u can report

This.
They have it in msn, why can't they have it in Guild Wars :\
At the very least, make it so that you appear as the status you've set yourself when you logged off last time.
Edit:

How will that help if they put you on the ignore list anyways?
I suppose you could get your friends to put them on their list, but I mean, they have friends too that they wanna talk to (but they're a scammer so you never know...).

I remember Gaile or one of the dev colleagues talking about this being in development about six months or more ago. I can't find the source yet but it is definitely doable (I'll edit it as soon as I find it) ... just that they can't be arsed at this point of the game anymore I guess.

I was of the notion that "posting constructively" and refraining from "Its never gonna happen" threads were rules around here. hmm.
Anyway i think this is a good idea. there could be many reasons why someone wishes to remain as offline or showing away. first thought that comes to my mind is GLs and ALs just wanting a few moments of rest from constant PMs about guild BS. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play the game sometimes alone and not wanting to be disturbed and not being rude to friends trying to explain this.
As to abuse by scammers and such, once gone from the dist. you cant report anyway. This feature wouldnt stop you from printscreen and email, so weak arguement.

If I don't want to talk to people who whisper me the second I'm online, I'll tell them I don't want to talk to them at that time. It's only courteous to tell them, instead of being all sneaky about it, playing the game yet pretending you are offline.
And if people are offended by my wish to be left alone, tough luck to them. They are (or are not) my friends for a reason.

During one of the EotN gameplay vids, you could see this feature in the Character Login screen. So it's there alright, just not for us.

I like this idea. I have some concerns about hackers/scammers though. If someone hacks account he is usually visible as online to all guildies. In many hack situations this coming as "online" provided a timeframe when someone was on the account. But in general I for it.

If you're wondering why you don't see your post in this thread anymore, that above rule is probably why.

I agree with this. Just add a little bar with a drop down button on the character select screen that has like "Sign in as: Online/Away/DnD/Offline."
I don't see what would be so terribly difficult.

However, I think that it would be better if loading were detected and there was a special status for that. Though, that might be a little much in terms of development...
Anyway, good idea, do it on the character login screen.
