Default Retire the current "Dishonor" System in missions -- It does NOT work

Why?

1. The chances of getting dishonor for reporting leechers are higher than getting the leechers dishonored.

2. Without active monitoring by GM dishonor is just USELESS. GW has ZERO GM support as far as leechers and botters go and they are doing their thing this weekend in JQ.

3. Many people don't understand this REPORT system and after getting DISHONORed by reporting leechers once, they don't even try it again.

4. People are generally lazy and quitting is less cumbersome than reporting.

5. Being forced to play a match with leecher(s) is not only unpleasant but also an epitome of stupidity.

Solution(s):

1. Simply let people play and quit a match as they please.
Or
2. Let people form parties in competitive missions.
Or
3. Remove the current method of applying Dishonor Hex. Just have a GM spend a day in different arenas randomly every month and ban bots and leechers.

What say you?

Removing it completely would make the overall situation of PvP to where it applies worse. Instead, there should be some extra incentive for people to report leechers, or some kind of punishment that would actually deter leechers.

The main problem now, I feel, is that people don't want to report because it hurts them, it's usually ineffective at stopping the situation, and the people around them are also not reporting. If you introduce a good reason for players to be reporting without a huge backlash if they don't get other people to do it as well, people might start using it.

Please get rid of the stupid 1/3 rule. I got the hex twice yesterday, mostly from reporting leechers and the occasional leecher that decided to report me back. Will it be abused? Well people already don't use it as it is. Some don't even know how to report. Otherwise make it +1 instead of +2. +2 for reporting a leecher is really stupid. In lieu of active monitoring by a GM, removing the system will just make the situation spiral out of control.

They also need to add an additional checkbox for griefing. This weekend I've already encountered ranger spirit spammers and MM necros that suicide near gunther.

Remove the system. I've said it before, it does nothing to the leechers/griefers and hurts the honest players. It also has been acting as a way to grief players by abusing the reporting for verbal abuse/ reporting for name. There are people who just hang around in RA etc and look for character names that they could ban for the fun of it.

Good idea in theory but just as bad of an idea. The reason the 1/3 rule is in place is because there are those jerks who will report you for "leeching" when you're on the other side of the arena. The rule they always use: If I don't see you, then you're leeching. I've told this story before and I'll say it again, I have gotten reported on my monk for not healing a stupid tank when I was else where in JQ, healing a turtle. I can see monks getting the brunt of this from people who believe that the monk should be near them, not with someone else.

Also, in making it where you only need one person to report, you can now report people for leeching if you feel that they have an inferior build.

There are people who want to participate and are fighting, doing their best but the whole system would still be flawed if A-Net decided to change the rule to one person reporting. Can anyone else just see the complaints and threads that we'd see here if that happened?

"I got reported by some noob because I was using <insert build here> and he/she thought it was a bad build for this area! This stupid system needs to either be changed or removed!"

and

"I reported a leecher and then they reported me for reporting them! Isn't that SO stupid? This was the dumbest thing A-Net could have done! Whose brilliant idea was this? It doesn't work!"

Getting back to the original post, why not get rid of it? Not many people seem to report anyway. Although many see the action of removing the system as making PvP worse, I can't see how if a majority of people here don't use the system anyway. As I said above, lowering the required number of reports will result in jerks abusing the system because they don't like a build or just because they can. So it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't. If no one's using the current system, then why not remove it?

Added: And one more thing, this problem will be forever a problem for A-Net. They will never be able to find a decent reporting system that works and that will make all of us happy.

Instead of letting people report leechers. Anet just need to place some sort of inactive thingy. Like if you stand more then 2min without moving (in your base) you dont get any points. or let you see the positions of team members. so you can place them inactive

/notsigned.

1) Even with some imperfections, this system is better than nothing (e.g. stops jumping leavers in places like RA, who leave each time they don't find a monk in their team)

While I agree that the system is not the best, it still achieves something.
Yesterday, among the many leechers I've met, there was a mo/p who stood idle in the starting base of JQ, he stood there for the first 5 minutes of the match, so 3 of us reported him. He only after the 3 reports began moving and started bitching... Some people just stay there, and if they see that others are reporting them for leeching, they begin to move to avoid losing the reward.

2) I think there are other threads about this issue in the forums, I don't see why you need to open a new one.

I don't agree with the "instead", I would rather "add" the timer.
Whit a timer you could get 2 more dishonor points if you stay idle (but then leechers could just tap a key, or set a bot that makes them move a little and fool the "idle-timer").

Even if someone reports you out of spite you still won't get dishonor =___=
What are the chances that 5 different people decide to report you for no reason? Or what are the chances of the same person reporting you in 5 successive games. Comeon...

The problem is that the current system relies on people's word. A leecher should be detectable automatically by the small number of skills clicked, or lack of movement. Then at the end of a match, if the character didn't move enough or didn't use enough skills, points should be deducted from the faction title track and from Balthazar points. Once Balthazar points would go negative by this method, then an automatic ban on PvP should be applied, for about a day. That would stop most leeching, even by second accounts who may leech not for points but for making the other side lose. It wouldn't stop botting, but that's a different problem anyway and not so common.
But there could still be a problem for disconnection kinds of not playing though, for the purposes of making a team lose. Perhaps quitters could be replaced by a hero or henchman, or perhaps points should be deducted from the quitter's title track and Balthazar points anyway, next time they log back on, even though some disconnections are not on purpose. Or perhaps the winning team reward points should be reduced unless the quitter was from their team.

Ok... why not try to improve the system then huh?

Whenever someone reports a leecher, have a little box that pops up on all the other party members screens allowing them to click yes or no to agree/disagree about them leeching.

I like that idea for the leechers. I would only hope they figure out a way to do it without hurting the slow-loaders, etc. But I would still leave in a report system for botting, offensive names and verbal abuse, etc.

Adding incentives or removing drawbacks is dangerous though. If there's an incentive, people will randomly report someone for that incentive regardless of them deserving it or not. If there's no drawback people don't even need to coordinate it and can just fire off reports at will.

The only thing they can reasonably do is up the punishment to leechers and/or make it more visible to encourage use. Probably lowering the # of needed reports is worth it too.

Seperate topic but syncing should be killed in all formats while we're at it, synced groups can abuse whatever kind of system upgrade is put in. I know some people that synced RA and would report the 4th random person they got for not being a monk.

New solution, right when you are reported you get a debuff saying that you have been reported. If you don't attack anyone in the next minute you receive no points from that game and have dishonorable when you get out of the match.

it may not work well, but it is better than not having it. GM's need to find those who bot and afk in competitive missions and give them pvp bans, ones that give dishonor for days at a time. maybe a week ;-).

People don't understand the report system? Are you kidding. You have to be a complete and utter failure to not understand. When you enter it says something like to report leechers click there name in the party window and /report or like type /report and their name to report them for leeching. I am sorry but if someone can't read that at the beggining of the match then how the hell did they manage to even turn on the computer to play...

No you don't need to be a complete and utter failure for not understanding reporting system; just disabling those dialog boxes will do. Many people do disable those pop-up dialog boxes for better view area.
