Idea to Fix Economy
As we all know, the Guild Wars economy has been and is in shambles, and as time goes on it will only get worse. I think I've come up with quite an ingenious solution to this problem. It's the only way.
Basically everything needs to start over. I think ANet should delete every gold piece, every ecto, every everlasting tonic, every expensive dye, every Z Key, every miniature, all gold items, all green items, all weapon mods, all sets of prestige armor including Obsidian armor, as well as anything else that is used as any sort of currency or has a value of over 10k.
Also, all skills unlocked, including elites, should be ununlocked. So that people can't just start farming the hell out of every item right away. And to make sure they don't just rebuild their builds, I think every skill should be dramatically nerfed. Basically so that all new strategies and techniques and everything would have to be relearned.
Now, by delete I don't mean remove the item from the game, I mean just delete all the ones in existence.
Now yes this seems harsh, and thousands of people would be losing gold and items that they have spent hundreds and even thousands and even tens of thousands of hours getting. Even I would be losing a great deal of gold, ectos, and items, but I am willing to sacrifice. I think this is a necessary solution to the Guild Wars economy problems. But it would have to target EVERYONE. No account could go untouched, otherwise it would offset the balance.
Essentially we could peacefully go back to "the good old days", and really enjoy this game the way it was meant to be enjoyed before Guild Wars 2 comes out. If I missed anything that should be deleted or changed in order to fully get the desired effect of this, please do mention them.
This is not a rant or anything like that. I am not jealous of people that have more money than I, I just want to have the old Guild Wars back. The Guild Wars all us old players knew and loved.

There is NOTHING wrong with the GW economy, only with those who try and live GW.

Enjoy having 3 people to play with, 99% of the people who still play this game will quit, this will be the last nail in the coffin if this ever happens.

Personally I think your idea ranks as one of the worst yet.
Care to explain exactly what you felt was good about the "good old days" ? What was exactly was it that you , an "old player" felt was so much better back then ?
(i have been playing since day 1 - just pointing that out before the standard "you don't remember what it was....blahblah" post from someone at somepoint )

I don't know why you would ask that if you've been playing since day 1, it seems pretty obvious.

Sure as long as I can have my 2,400 hours playtime back, and if 'playing' was more profitable than farming. Oh wait...

People who've been playing since beta worked for a fair amount of that stuff. It took me over a year of farming to be able to afford my 1st set of Obsidian armor. I (and a lot of other peeps) would be mightily pissed if Anet suddenly wiped out all that work. Besides GW1 is way late in its lifecycle. We'll get a new clean start in GW2.

This might just be the worst idea I've read in years.
Let's try it with the real economy.
Everybody can be homeless, have no clothes, food, water or money!
Yeah, that'll work!

Good way of avoiding the question.
As you your point, No it is not obvious to me
Care to explain it to me why everything being cheaper to buy now and Gold being much easier to obtain now means that I am worse off than I was in the good old days ?

Can we try some constructive criticism instead of just flaming? We're all civilized people here I assume, no need for acting like ravaging beasts.

Basically your idea is like, burning down a building because you've got a broken window. (Especially if that window isn't even broken at all..)

QFT.
Gw1 is a little old to start fixing the problem. best thing is to let it rid out until Gw2 comes along and we all get clean slates. Hopefully by then Gw1 will have stabilized.
If not, we will occupy our time with relentless farming in Gw2

We would be constructive. If there was any logic or brain power behind this proposal.
Ya know I heard thinking things through saves you from being flamed..

Is this a serious proposal? Exactly what problem would this solve?
Punish people who have already achieved their in-game goals? From multiple angles (customer relations, future business, game economy) I'd say that's an exceptionally bad idea.

Also if you want constructive criticism try not making a completely retarded idea to fix the economy :P We all love the stuff we've worked for, and having it taken away is punishment for playing almost.

Like I said, I know people will lose a lot, but it's a necessary loss. I will lose a lot too. No, I'm not the richest person in the game, but I do have well over 2 million including all my armor, ectos, gold, weapons, and such. So I won't be going without a loss.

It's slow and scattered.
All GW 'ecomoney' needs is a way to center it in a single IN-GAME spot. So EVERY single player goes to the same place, and regardless of langauge, region, district and outpost they are in, they get the stuff sold.
That's all that is needed, and currently only happens with Traders.
But deleting? That's simply... well, the only fitting word to describe it will likely get censored so I won't write it, but you get the drill.
