Well guilds can notice your status is set to offline because your name won't change to the original name that was sent the guild invite. It will still say (also blah blah) in parenthesses under your name. So when in your guild tab if someone is offline and has that also xx person then they are online. So the whole so your guild can't see you doesnt matter.
However while I disagree that you shouldn't be able to send a pm just have it also give you a message like it does to the other person. Like your status is set to offline or dnd people cannot respond to you. ~OR~ your status is away blah blah.
If someone 8 year old is gonna set to offline then pm you and cry about failing in ra set to offline or dnd urself or put him on ignore

That is one solution, but I prefer being able to get PMs from my guildmates as well, and posting people up on the ignore list is just flat-out annoying (yes it does sound lazy but many will come to agree with that statement). Why not just have a permanent solution to freakin nerds who think they're tough online because they can set their status to offline and make the gaming community happy?

Cool idea. Although when someone is "Away" you can PM him/her, with an annoying message to pop up.

Very common misconception. What it actually is is that the guild list shows that members previous characters name because you were online then. If you log out, then log in the character names on the guild list will revert to what they were invited under.
It doesnt mean they are under "appear offline", just that you where online when they log out. This is easily testible. Get someone to change characters, and youll notice that they are offline, AND under the name of the character they were just on. Hell, look at someone's name after they say something like, im off, cya guyz later. Itll say the name of that character. It happens everytime, so I doubt everyone is using "offline" all night, every night.

I do agree with how annoying it is to get flamed by an idiot and when you try to talk back, they're "Offline" or "Do not disturb" so you can't reply. their head swells up and i've had cases where they would keep flaming and even ask me why i'm not replying. "obviously it's because i'm scared"
........
if you choose to set yourself to offline, you clearly do not wish to interact with people.
so /signed.

lol a funny case of this was maybe 2 years ago or so a guy in RA was a warrior and was using ele skills (flare, fire storm, ect [no, sorry, no hamstring to officially have the hamstorm bar xD]) and i said PvE is that way --> and then he starts raging like hell, lol. the match eventually finished and he starts spamming and flamming me via PM under DnD. the reason i remember this SO well was b/c of a particular line that made ne laugh SO hard.
it was: WHAT'S WRONG!? ARE YOU TOO BUSY SUCKING MY D I C K TO REPLY BACK!? YEA!! KEEP SUCKING IT!!! OH YEA, DO IT, BABY!! SUCK IT HARDER!!" or something VERY similar along those lines.
anyways, yea, if they set to "offline" or "DnD" please do not allow them to be able to PM others. /sigh

I hate when people hide behind their computer screen. Which is why I never flame after I lose a battle in RA, I always say "gg" and go on my own way.
But I do agree it's very annoying when someone does that. I know they wouldn't say that to anyone in real life without getting their ass beat.
So, /signed.

It's just logical.
If you can't be whispered, you should not be able to whisper either.
It's like somebody plugging their ears with their hands while yelling "Nah, nah, nah, I can't hear you!"
Can you whisper like that? Ha-ha...! NoUDon't.
This is like it should be:
* Online - the default option that you are set to upon logging in. All channels working.
* Offline - you don't connect to the chat at all, you won't read any line coming from any character or channel. You can input only emotes and only System and NPC chat lines will appear. Anything else but emotes will be answered with a "No one can hear you, you are set as "Offline" for the chat server".
* Away - you can read, and those that whisper you will receive the warning "This character is Away and may not respond to you", but if you input anything but emotes, you are set as online again.
* Do Not Disturb - Yo don't receive whispers, anyone whispering you will receive a 'This player chat mode is set as "Do Not Disturb". But can read and write in all other chat channels. Every time you whisper to anyone, they can whisper you back for the rest of the session, or until you set reset "Do Not Disturb" by setting you to other mode and back again to Do Not Disturb.
* Save modes - The last mode you are in while be saved, and be set automatically to you when you log in again.
That's how it should have been.

Been suggested before.
Really pathetic and the only use of being able to whisper while offline is by griefers.

That looks like a very good idea, /signed for this one!
Well, those lamers that throw names at you when offline or DnD will simply go on status 'online', PM you with everything that comes up and go back to DnD(or offline).
'Away'; it would be really nice to go auto into the 'online' status when you say something when in away status.

it should be changed so that u can recieve messages with offline status. ability to hide from others while still conversing with a friend. personal opinion. ;-) if u do not wish to recieve messages, there is DnD ;-)

I really agree with this post, besides 2 little points I would personally look into:
For "Do Not Disturb," you should not be able to whisper anyone, in my opinion. However, if that solution does not fly with others, I think that when you pm someone while in DND, you should receive a message saying "The person you just messaged will not be able to respond, as you are set to 'Do Not Disturb.'"
So many times I've had people think I was ignoring their pm's, but in reality, I was trying to respond, but they were set to DND and didn't know it.
The second thing is Save Mode, but maybe that's just because I don't really understand what you're trying to say...

Aww, I opened this thread hoping it would be a sort of email system to message friends and leave notes when they are not online, not a complaint thread.
Ignore list ftw?
