Yeah I don't see any issue with name changing, as long as it doesn't allow people on your ignore list to bypass your ignore of them.
Also they should make name chaging a bit more expensive then 1K, make it 10K or 20K. The way I see if, if you really want to change your name you should pay a high price for it.

I fully support the idea! I would like my chars to have the same last name, without starting all over. There are also people who try a character and first make up a name they don't really like just to try out the char. Only later do they realise that they actually like that char (after getting the more impressive skills), but played a lot and don't wanna start all over again. Still they wanna give a more suitable name for their char but can't. I also agree with changing looks even if it's not too realistic to change an already made char. Body scale (mainly in case of a warrior, cuz not everyone really likes the bulk look) is also a good idea, though I read this in another thread. Still it could be added to changing looks in Factions. As for avoiding the rapid changing of char names and looks, it could be limited. Not with paying fees. Simply allow every character to be changed only once. Just like recreating a character. I think everyone has played long enough by now to be able to come up with a normal character name and look. This character recreation could be allowed after every expansion. Which would mean players could change their characters' names and looks once in a year.

While I agree with this on the basis that occassionally you make mistakes, or later you decide that you don't like it, the problem that I - and many others no doubt - foresee is scammers using this service. No matter what the price, because you can make cash in GW easily, scammers will always have the money to do so. This means that when support is checking out scammers, they will have to trawl through the logs to see if they can find a name change that has occurred - assuming they log it. Sure it CAN be done, but it takes time. The more time it takes the less scammers will be caught because at the end of the day they will have a pile of complaints they can't jump over and they will have to suck it in a bin some, or risk a back log of several years.
If name changes were done on a LIMITED basis, it could help this problem.
Naturally the best way is to not allow it at all.

And really, I don't even wanna rename my characters-
My first character was deleted after a few days of not liking it. But that's still the primary name that's linked to my account, even though I've created 4 other toons since then. The primary name should roll over to the next oldest character when it gets deleted.

I seem to spend hours before making a new character, and often the time is wasted mostly on the name. This would also make limiting name changes sort of pointless, if it costs as much as a sigil.

excellent idea imo, I agree with firebat i think it should cost a fair amount like 10k to change it, to avoid it being abused.
although a high price like this could encourage people to farm ebay

I think it's an awful idea, simply because spotting and remembering the *multitude* of moronic players that play GW is hard enough as it is... if they've given the ability to rename themselves (or worse, change their appearance as well) it becomes impossible. It would provide griefers and scammers with the means to hide themselves.

I know I wanna change the name of my necro. It was an accident that resulted in 2.5mil+ xp character with a ton of skills bought, fissure armor, cool golds and greens, whatnot. I favor the change of hair, I don't think you should be able to change your face/skin tho, that's like pushing it. But a new hair style cant hurt. Definitely a name change option tho- they do it for people with offensive names anyway. I see no problem in doing it for everyone.

God, changing names would be good. I messed up during name creation and forgot to put in a space and I had to live with it ever since.

/signed - but i think it should cost LOADS, like 5,000g or something.
This would not only encourage people to actually work for their new name, but also prevent abuse. (sorry, i didnt go through all the 16-17 pages, but i'm sure some small fee was suggested :P)

Here's the easy way to stop abuse:
One name change per week. And have it cost 50k.
Done and done.

I have 3 characters with the same last name, and may want to change it's last name to correspond.
and i agree, 1 name change per week and make it cost like 15k.. only problem i see emerging from this is character names on the Guild Roster and on your friendslist... but ANet has probably thought of this.
