Unhappy with your character name, but don't want to lose your time and energy?
The ability to change the name of your characters in Guild Wars is a feature that we are considering as an addition to the game, but is not an option at this time. (The only exceptions to this are characters with names that violate our User Agreement or Rules of Conduct. Such characters must be renamed by their players with an automated name violations tool, or the character must be deleted.)
If a name-change feature is something you would like to see as part of the Guild Wars service, then we encourage you to share your suggestions on one of the many Guild Wars fansite message boards.
If you want to see this happen, post your support here!

Its simply a great idea, and if its already coded and possible in given situations, then its shouldn't involve too much work for the programmers. Probably best to put a 'change name' option between 'create' and 'delete' on the character select screen rather than have /charname Jack Skellington Pvp.
Do it!

Make it like chargable like so much money pet name, or skillpoints, or something other. Don't make it free; it'll be abused.
Did I mention? /Signed.

If the name of your pet can be changed, why cant yours? Your name is part of what makes your char unique (I am not implying that only 1 char in the game is unique), and if you get bored of your name you should be able to change it freely (just like your pets name)
and a possible emote to change your name could be:
/changename insert new name here
forgot to add

It is a good idea being able to change your Char names, would be a good feature to include. Hope the developers are considering this.

Your character name is probably a unique key type of field in the databases, and what you see externally as a simple change probably needs to be spammed across databases... providing they even allow a key field to be changed.
/NOT Signed, out of respect for the devs.

i concur, and you signed you name wrong.
Like they said before, hair style, face(well maybe not), hair color, and so on should be changeable.

Great idea. I need to take the beast from my main name because people assume i'm a beastmaster.
"Hey beast, where's your pet?"

^^ you can already change your petname back and forth. Just type "/petname" with nothing after it, and it will revert to the default.
As far as char. name changing... Can't say I've ever wanted this, as I spend a lot of time thinking of my names, but I can see where some would have this problem. I think it's worthwhile, so:

I dont liek it. The ability to change your name whenever you please? It would get annoying because you wouldnt know who anyone of your friends are. I think a change look would be more realistic.
i mean the overall idea would be nice, but it would be abused

Yeah, a /favor would be nice. Changing your name would be very convenient, and the databases probably use email, since they're all unique, you can't have two accounts with the same email. And if they already have a system to implement name changes why not tweak it so that it will work with anyone. They might want to limit the # of name changes per character to maybe 2 or 3.

yes.. but I would say do it at a NPC with a small fee (like 300 gold or something)
This avoid things like:
Me: Hi Joe, I don't like you
Joe: What?!
/changenameto Joe-suck-his-mama
Joe-suck-his-mama: I don't like you.

It would be nice to change your name but as said above, this would probably be too spammable.
Since GW has already made it where you can change the territory your players home districts are (limited to certain amount of times), changing your player name should follow this same layout. If you change your character's name all the time, then wheres the creativity in that? Character names are extremely important and you should be limited the amount of times you can change it, if made changable.
I could see also being able to change hair type and hair color, but the other attributes should stay locked.
