Armor Storage Like Festival Hats
I don't think anyone has suggested this, so here is a different way that they could code an armor storage solution by reusing the data stored in the HoM.
Put an NPC in you HoM that will craft you a replica of any armor piece that you have dedicated there. It would cost only a minimal amount of gold - comparable to creating a festival hat. The only difference is that the armor you get from this guy would not be sale-able (price = 0) and you cannot salvage it for ingredients. You could trash it, just like starter weapons. In all other aspects of appearance, armor rating and the ability to add/remove runes to it, it is the same as the original armor pieces. .
It would come bare of any runes or insignias.
This way, if you wanted, you could dedicate your obsidian armor, then salvage it for a chance to get a few ectos back when you're sick of it, and then a few months later when you feel nostalgic you can recraft it for cheap.
The main benefit of this approach would be ArenaNet could simply reuse the information stored in the character-based HoM datafile and not have to allocate server space for everything going into the storage bags.
The main drawback I see is that people might fill up their storage with additional runes and insignias that they want to hold on to to swap in and out of this craft armor.
This is mainly a solution for those that want to have multiple elite sets on multiple characters.
This idea just seemed like a more simple and less data intensive way to handle the armor issue than to add these storage packs that won't really help make it easier to have 3-4 elite armor sets for more than two characters without a TON of grinding Zquests.

For people who share their account, like me, it would be unfair because I do all the hard grafting to get elite armours and my bro doesnt get them at all. This would mean that I would spend ~90k on materials and buying the armour and then my bro could get it for just a minimal fraction of the price I payed
However, if it was just purely a character based NPC I dont see how this could work now that HoM has gone account wide

not signed,
with the HoM update, every armor you have bought on any toon goes in to every hall (= to the class's armor of the type you have placed in hall) thus only having to buy 1 armor and being able to make it for all toons.

/signed,
I salvaged most of my armors after dedicating, it would be nice to see an implementation to retrieve them back, with out having to craft the set all over again!
As Grey mentioned though, /not signed, would be to easy to switch toons in the HoM for basically free.

doing this would eliminate player need for storage and in turn lower the chances of people buying the new storage panes, so lol. besides, with the new equip bags, u can get a bunch of the large ones for armor storage. granted this will take a long time, but if u want it bad enough, u can get it.

It has been suggested before (by me, if no-one else!), but buried in other threads rather than having a thread of it's own.
So, obviously, /signed. However, it probably should only be possible when the HoM is in character-based mode, not account-based.
I might also be inclined to have it at a discount rather than virtually free - say, 1k and materials as for 1k equivalents.

Might be a good suggestion for the GW2 development team. But it's a little late for this concept to find its way into GW.

As I alwways say and repeat again and again, unlocking is the best alternative to store.
This is the definite way to solve most storage problems when it comes to items that are usually acquired once.
You don't usually get 3 or 4 complete sets of an armor. You may get one piece several times, but rarelly never the whole set, since you can use perfect kits and rune traders to modify the sets you already have.
If you go even further and make each piece unlocked like hats, then people won't have to worry about storing them anymore, and more and more people would try to go for all sets.
A possible interface is already done: PvP item creation.
But the HoM only works for prestige sets, so showing them to an NPC like with the hat maker would be better.
You lose the item, and from then one you can ho to the Item creation panel of that character and crate as many customized copies of the item as you want... for a gold fee, of course, 20g for normal pieces and 200g for prestige ones should be enough.
Then you go get the runes, and done.

No, they don't go into every hall. Once you switch back to single view, you get only the ones the character unlocked again, try it.
When other characters unlock an armor, you can see the version of that armor (if available) for the current character. But they don't really get it. Only the character gets the unlock, but not all characters.
As for storage, there are other items to store. Weapons would be left out of this, as items that have traders, trophies, consumables...
Storage would be still needed.
