This sounds like a nice idea but it won't happen and I thought our Eilte area was Surrows Furnace.

Think about what you said... the crevices that opened up led to Boreal, which before had no enterance, for all we know there could be an Asuran Gate linked to the catacombs, or the earthquakes could have caused tunnels to create linking it to anywhere. Why not?

We still need this! There's numerous advantages to this:
+ It uses an existing underused map only available in a tutorial (Catacombs)
+ It helps bring people to underused areas (isn't that the reason they made Zaishen quests in first place?)
+ It gives Tyria a cool new elite area as an alternative to Sorrow's Furnace.
+ New content makes everyone happy while waiting for GW2.

Prophecies has one Dungeon-like area already: Sorrow's Furnace.
It won't harm to add more!
In the Catacoms there are 5 kinds of enemies:
- Skeletons.
- Nightmares.
- Gargoyles.
- Devoures.
- Spiders.
We have plenty of models for those species. Gather them, pick the Catacombs area, flood the place with lots of monsters of that types and add a quest for killing a Boss of each of the races.

Would be nice to see something new like this... I used to do the dungeons in eotn almost daily I think, but got tired of them...
Alot of people are looking for a new challenge, this could be a good one.
Why not take it a step further ... make it the hardest dungeon/catacombs of all. A dungeon which would be hard to finish (where the majority of the groups don't even make it to the boss or the next level/part), limited party (no heroes/hench), where skills, expertise and teamwork count = not the pvx - build of the month that is.
A dungeon which really makes it worth for players to finish, by giving a special kind of reward (not like the /fail diamonds and weps in eotn), a high end weapon/collectable ... And because most groups would find it to hard to finish, those drops could remain high end more easily.
It would be worth to try again and again...
To many of the original players have left the game cos of the lack of challenges. But who's to blame them, gw2 is still far away.
Just an idea of course... or maybe a wish lol

Entire Ascalon is limited by 4 people, unless you run from Yak's Bend. So I guess they would either make it a 4-party dungeon or place it in Ascalon Foothills or Diessa Lowlands.
I guess 4 people would be ok since there are some very narrow passages there, and would put a huge challenge on thoose who wanted to attempt it :-)

I would agree to this, if there was some sort of new town put in place to force the party to be 4-man. Just call it the Catacombs Excavation Site or something. Otherwise all the fun would be ruined by teams forming up in Yak's or ToA and running there, completely raping the place.

I think the dungeon entrance should be from Sardeliac, just like it used to be from pre. That would both limit party to 4 and stay consistent with pre ascalon.

They could just ignore the whole eye of the north thing. Make a quest in old ascalon that requires you to fight off a charr patrol hiding in the mountains to the west, they are about to attack an outpost.. folies faire.
Complete the quest (should be somehwat difficult) to get to that outpost. Would be mega cool to finally go back there after the searing. The outpost would have a party cap of 8. create a new quest, make it a masters quest - with a dungeon entreence leaving out of the outpost. Make the quest something like ''defeat XXX to reclaim the catacombs''.
Could be awesome.. new end game content.
But make it hard. So people play it a lot.

Ok, I technically haven't read anything that's been said here, but I LOVE THE IDEA!
I would want it to be post-sear (obviously) and it would make sense, considering that the catacombs had to go somewhere.....or collapse. One or the other. Good idea!

i sometimes play pve to reduce the waiting for gvg, so i am not a pve-lover.
but for the sake of the game: /signed.
make the monsters act more like the charr and have x/y skillbars (with rezzes) and make it really difficult to master.
offtopic: please, rework the alliance battles for the content-update after that.
