Join & Quit Guilds
I have had my guild for about 2 years and most of the people I invite into my guild join and quit within 2-3 days.
I am getting annoyed by it. I know it's custom to what people want or expect out of a guild but it also makes the guild look bad because when showing in the history section it shows those that quit.
Whos going to join a guild with a list of people that join and quit?
Are people just loosing intrest in the game? They just go around joinning guilds and quitting just because?
I think anet should implement something into GW to punish those that join and quit, why should us (we) have a bad rap because people think its funny to join and quit. Maybe charge people to join a guild? That'll stop it, sure people would complain about it or stop playing GW all together, but it'll get rid of all the idiots.
Whats the point? Why do people buy the game to join and quit guilds? I guess thats what the word idiot is for.
I would like peoples take on this. Have you had it happen?

No most people who join and quit probably see that your guild doesn't offer what they need.
Think about it
All officers do is promote and sell their guild to get people to join. So some people might embellish their guilds a bit.
Atleast thats what happened to me a few times.
People say their guild does this or that and never do, so I just quit.

Do activities, get people involved. Kick the people that don't try to get involved and just farm/Herohench on their own, you don't want those people in your guild. It gives the impression of the guild being a waste of time...unless you want to be in one of those stupidly big alliances in which people don't know each other and every guild/alliance team is a pug.

I have activities, like chest runs, fow, and uw, were alliance 250k faction. I have a forums and a teamspeak server to get people involved. Don't know what else to do.

I thought about this too, but my friend even said it's their choice, wich is what I concluded too. It isnt fair, and it IS annoying, to try to start a guild and it never gets going. People say its not easy to make a guild now a days because they just want to get in an established community. If you get one going, KUDOS TO YOU!

what kind of interview process do you have for new candidates? or do you just accept anyone?
What does your guild specialize in?
I have always found it helpful to specialize in something, whether it be HM, Titles, SC's, vanqs etc.., it seems to draw the right people into the guild.
But back to the first point, there will always be guild jumpers (some peeps just cant stand still) but if you take the time to have a formal application for people to fill out you then create a need for someone to "want" to be in your guild. Once they get there its up to you and your officers to keep them entertained

*Does your guild have many people yet? Sometimes people just see a small roster and think the guild is crap.
*Are your members active and are there many of them online at once?
*Are the members interesting at all or do they just continue on their business by themselves?
It could be a lot of things really.

Honestly, it just depends where your recruiting and who your recruiting. If your recruiting in Ascalon, you'll be getting mostly noobs. With noobs, they usually just join for the cape and leave when someone else asks them to join their guild. If your recruiting experienced players, they're quite picky and if something is not right in the guild they will leave.

Recruit properly and people don't quit often. Don't do random invites. Interview people who want to join to make sure they fit with what your guild does and what you want out of members. For example, if you want to do GvG on a regular basis, don't invite someone who only wants to do PvE with an occassional AB.

Thank you very much. Took me one week. We now have a steady 20 members, 4 great officers.

When I started, I was tearing my hair out trying to keep members staying. I had to balance my time between being a good GL, recruitment, and actually playing the game. Until I hit the 20 member mark it was common to see people leave in packs of 5. Once you get into a fair sized alliance it steadies out. Get enough energetic officers and people are happy. Get enough members and there's always someone on to talk and help.

The main reason I see people leave soon after joining is because the game is old and most people already have a decent guild. Most people who don't are either drifters or leechers.

That's true.
Players who had been invited by using the Local Chat quit to 95% in the next 12h.
Even if they have no reason..you are playing with them, helping, chatting...everything they wanted when you invited them.
I get the impression, those players want to be invited and want to leave, want to be invited and want to leave...
When new Players have to complete a whole application on your Forum, they will only quit in 5%, because they really thought about what to write, to get in _this, exactly this_ Guild.

When we were still recruiting about 25% of the players would leave in a couple of days. Another 25% would leave within two weeks.
The rest stayed with us for several months or even years.
The reason? We've always had a clear goal as guild.
We want to be a friendly HM guild for regular players (so not the hardcore speed clear types). Having fun is far more important then achievements.
People knew upfront that we don't mind failure once in a while.
Only when someone keeps performing bad this could result in a kick, but this hardly ever happened.
From my experience there are two things really important in the guild:
- several people who organise stuff (so things don't depend on one player).
- be fair and honest about your goals and guild status when recruiting and make sure that guild goals are known by all players.
You can't do much more than creating an environment where people want to be. That's not easy, I can tell you that.
One small side comment for you.
250K faction is nothing. We easily achieved 1.2M as guild during the past weekends with 4 or 5 active players. 3 of us have daytime jobs and two have a baby so they can't play all the time.
Faction means nothing when you ain't aiming for a town.

Here`s my experience.
Been playing for two years and I`m still in the same guild I got recruited into two weeks after getting the game. I didn`t even know what a guild was. I progressed a lot since then. I became an officer while refusing to let go of the guild when it appeared to be dying and we managed to save it and make it stronger. I am currently the Guild Leader with the Guild founder stll active as an officer.
We`re a guild of around 50 members + officers, 15 - 20 active every day. When I recruit I usually use local chat. I know that I might get guild hoppers so I try chatting with them first. I prefer new players like I was when recruited because helping them out, answering their questions often brings us loyal long-term members. Of course there are those who leave the next day but I just say to myself, it`s their loss, they don`t know what they`re missing. What I hate most are ppl leaving after we get them through the campaigns. We`ve had a few ppl leaving after wanting to play PvP (we are a PvE guild), but we understand their choices and are still on friendly terms.
The most problems I`ve had recruiting were players who joined and apparently stopped playing the game. They are kept in the guild for up to 3 months but then kicked.
So, to conclude my rather long monologue (sry about that), in my opinion it`s all up to the vibe of a guild. I know my guild isn`t perfect and it might not seem like much to someone who just joined, but we try to make newcomers feel welcome, we include them in the conversation, learn their names, help them with the game and that`s about it.
And one more thing. I don`t accept players who are currently in a guild wanting to quit it for my guild. They will most likely do the same thing to us.

They already have, its the 14-day rule. It also now serves no purpose other than hurting the few people trying to PuG GvG.
I'm sorry that you are butthurt that people left your guild because clearly it is the best guild because it is your guild. If you want to establish a PvP guild you need 8 people and that's it. If you want to establish a PvE guild you need a large and fairly active population and most likely be in a very active alliance.
There are two ways to look at the people that joined and left. First, they were trying out your guild and there is no reason to punish people for trying out a guild. If a punishment were implemented then you wouldn't even have these tryouts even join in the first place. Second, they are just flaky people. If this was the case then you are better off not having them in your guild. Instead of trying to punish people for not doing what you want, try to think of a way to encourage people to play. Heaven knows we need more of the latter.

I think a major thing to keeping members is getting guild and alliances participating in things.
Start your own guild group for FoW or Urgoz and make it a standard weekly thing.
Just getting your guildies/alliance members involved in things will make them want to stay more
And, sorry didn't quote who said it, but interview the people you want to join. Recruiting random people won't make your guild feel like a guild but more of a collaboration of strangers.

one thing is dont try recruiting poeple who have no guild standing in any town. i got second account without a guild and every town i go into i get a whisper i let em invite i stay an hour and leave thinking if i do it enough they will leave us alone who dont want a guild. dont sit and recruit in town by screaming out.most of them list they do everything pvp pve nonsense and none rarely do anything they advertise. i always find the best way to recruit is do it on a forum such as this one and be honest if your honest about everything youll get people who will want to stay longer cause they know what they are getting into
