Once I HAD to switch user for my dd toget on for work stuff.
I spent 3 hours afk in the FoW (with 6 necros, friend zoned in with me). I would not have liked to have wanted to get d/c'd with 8 quests completed.
The current system is fine.

Geez!!! NOT Signed!!!
People who aren't doing anything take near no server power. More coding to select 'non-offenders' is a wast of time.
This Could make LDOA near imposible. Its a call someone would have to make. Dungeons, Vanqs, cartographers etc...yup, we all need to take a lunch/life break at times.
Maybe switch to decaf?
ps: Curious. Do you actually go check areas over a several hour period
to check out the 'offenders' ?

dont like the idea.
Some of us are in the middle of doing something in town and all the sudden, a child needs your attention, you fixing dinner for the family, your (like 1 said) taking a lunch break, your waiting for the friend to get on so you can do what you planned on doing, your husband fell down and broke his rubs and needed a trip to the E.R. (true story, that was my husband), there are thousands of reasons why people are AFK in town. Yes some are lagit, and some are just taking up space. What is wrong with standing on 9 rings while sleeping? That is why the 9 rings game was created...a money sink and a way to max those titles without it taking next to forever. If you are having a problem with loading an area, go to Asia...no one ever there, always loads just fine.

Sometimes, I don't move at all, and just sit and read trade chat. I get hypnotized by it. How do you know I'm AFK at all? I don't see this as a major GW issue. If everything else were perfect, sure, let's work on the something like this. But there are far more serious matters that require the attention of programmers.
Botting and leeching are major problems in some areas. There are game bugs to fix and skills to balance. I'm one of the guilty parties who tend to leave GW and wander back and forth, while doing other stuff, but it doesn't mean I don't read the trade screen and respond when I see something I might want to buy.
Should I be logged out for that? Should I have to remember to move?

One other point. How do you know the "AFK" person isn't in whisper with someone from their guild, or a friend, using their GW time to socialize? I do that too.

anyone thinking of gaining anything and everything without doing anything should get a time out.

Like many people here, I'm sure, I go AFK during events to get prizes. I can't always be here at my computer, so it's just easier to let GW do the work for me.
I also go AFK often during dungeon runs. It's nice know if I want to head out for a bite I'll still be logged in, exactly where I left my character, when I get back.
So, no. I don't want to be kicked off after 30 minutes.

the afk would kill some of my dungeon runs. Fail.
otherwise, i agree the 9 rings exception is key - who wants to sit around for 9 hrs straight, moving their mouse every 30mins?

also not sure how valid the argument is. I, for one, often stand in the same spot for long periods of time while chatting with ppl in my alliance. While I may appear to be afk to other people in the outpost, i am in fact not.
