good idea because it would be easier to from up for say, a heal spike. by seeing how far the target is, you could know how much armor he/she has and know if u should be in a hurry to heal spike / prot

Just thought about something else to do with that radar thing.
It could be fun if you could e.g. select X team member, press 'show radar' and it would show the circles, transparent pink being normal spell casting range and transparent red being half of the normal spell casting range. We could as well add a transparent green circle showing range of the current bow the character is using, changing depending on whether it's a flatbow/longbow, recurve bow/horn now or short bow.
That way, as a front-line character, you would radar-circle-flag your monks always knowing if they are in your healing range or not, so you know if you are overextending or not necessarily.

Why? Well, it could be handy to get a quick overview of the situation with one look on the radar, so why not.

This is something they will most likely not implement, but is a perfect opportunity for TexMod.

I'm not so sure ... texmod changes existing textures, if each player is represented by normal dot over the radar and there is no differentiation between each class in default game, you can't just magically create 10 new textures each for different profession and force the game to use them. It only replaces existing ones and if they don't exist nothing can be done.

Icy said what I'm thinking. Texmod is not a ban-able offense so long as it does not alter gameplay, but only the visual appearance to the player. And, the compass already takes up enough space to the screen already, I'm glad they let you turn it off (f11, interface, click the box so a checkmark does not appear next to "compass"). And, if you add that, the compass will already be cluttered enough. Now, if they gave us an option to turn it off, I won't mind signing it, but if it's mandatory, /notsigned

Those dots are a bit too small, even if you increase the size of the radar...
And since you can't target using the radar, it doesn't really make much difference.

You could just make the dots on the radar correspond to the different class colours.
Warrior yellow dot
Monk blue dot
and so on. No need for another circle of colour around the current green/blue dot just change the whole dot colour.

You could just Add a picture to the dot.. Like the picture for each profession, monk obviously being a mark of Dwyana, So blue team would have a blue dot with a colour easily noticed when against a blue backround. Or and Eye for mesmer.. would be cool..

Great idea but the range of your bow changes with the difference in elevation compared to your target.
/sign for original idea though, i really like the idea.

I'm not sure if it would be feasible to create some kind of dynamic function showing your effective range based on terrain ... probably it wouldn't be too accurate unless everyone had ping below <50ms.

/signed, it sounds like something fun, and it makes things easier not just for the monks but also for everyone, since you can figure out where everyone is. this also can help with figuring if everyone is in range for a spike or what not. also the dot can flash when they ping.

I'd say that the compass is probably too small to get much out of this. To get any decent amount of detail (especially on lower resolutions) the dots would get bigger, cluttering up the compass. Besides, you could just get better at watching the field and identify people that way. It MIGHT be worth it if you could turn it off, but I couldn't care less about it. /notsigned.

The points in the radar are merely to locate sides.
In areas with multiple factions (HoH, Rollerbeetle racing), they may have multiple colors.
And since they are so small, chaning the outer circle would just mix with the inner color.

i guess, this won't be a problem since you'd only see the profession of teammates on the radar (for obvious reasons). anet could scale the dots on the radar a bit and draw a slim circle around them, if you tick the, let's call it "radar improvements for healers", respective optional checkbox.
@MithranArkanere: many of us know the auras by heart, so e.g. if you are on red and see a red dot (with no other circle around it), you'll know it is an elementalist. so i don't see a problem there, since it is a) optional and b) a matter of time to get used to it.

Ranger and Necro, and paragon+warrior would be a little tough to comprehend on a small-scale radar, am I right?

I know spirit range is done through texmod but I feel it should be added in officially.
