the way the trading is handled now with wtb wts spamming isn't good.
also the search panel is hardly ever used because it just isnt a good solution.

^ Seems the search function isn't used in the forums as well, this has been suggested before. I don't agree with the idea of an afk shop, if everyone isn't spamming then they're just standing around afk, doesn't help to speed things up any more.

Yes yes YES, set up shops.
But only in one city per game, like the Bazar in Nightfall.

Yes, I agree, lag is a mytical thing, or only due to ones system, the internet(as well as Anets servers/bandwidth, is flawless and without limits.

I don't really care how Anet does it. We just need something that makes selling things less annoying than spamming, and more profitable than merching.

If you have looked into any of the other AFK stall threads, you would of seen me complaining about several things about this idea. But all can be fixed with the following changes:
1 - Don't require people to stay online to have their stall running. If you are required to stay online to keep your stall running then ANET will have a huge bandwidth bill from the stalls, and people with shared computers will have problems. However once the stall is setup, I can't see any functional reason as to why the player needs to stay online. So once a player has setup their stall, allow them to logoff without closing the stall.
Actually, can anyone give a good reason as to why the player running the stall shouldn't be allowed to be doing other things while the stall is running ?
Assume that the stalls will be automatically closed if they have nothing to sell, or if the stall has been untouched by its owner for a specific time period (chosen by ANET, probably one week)
And if the player isn't present to run their stall, the stall owner shouldn't count towards the number of people in a district.
2 - Limit the stall to specific locations in the international districts of a core town created specifically for these stalls. But limiting it to international, all players are able to interact with all stalls. By limiting it to specific spots we can force the stalls to be arranged in neat rows without overlapping, making it easy for players to browse all stalls in a systematic manner. By limiting it to one town we make browsing quicker, as due to loading screens it will be quicker to visit multiple stalls in the same town than if they are in different towns.
This should make it easier for ANET to automatically move the stalls around for load balancing (there only needs to be one town that doesn't have the maximum allowed number of stalls), and also allows the creation of other things to add to the feel of a marketplace such as stall booths that the stall owner sits behind.
3 - A search function. Basically because of the population of guild wars has so many people on one shard means we will have a lot of stalls, so it will be impractical to browse them all to find the items your after and some stalls will get many less visitors than other ones in better locations. So have a search function that only display items like the ones your after, and allow you to visit with the best price their stall at the touch of a button (or allow the purchase from the search results). Now the location and title of each stall becomes irrelevant.
This also allows casual sellers to do a search for items similar for the ones they want to sell, so that they can easily decide what price to sell their item at because they know what price everyone else is asking.

Considering that the stall owner will be AFK, I see a chat function as being a waste of bandwidth.

This, or an auction house, would balance the economy, as it allows the average joe to sell his things to people without having to be an obnoxious loud kid screaming at the top of his lungs in Local just to have a shot at selling something.
And to reinforce the idea of the private shop, Arenanet would of course need to take a more strict stance on people who spam Local, and enforce a zero-tolerance policy for this. It's ridiculous and there's no excuse for it. But overall, anything is better than what we have now.

Great idea. Kinda like in Knights Online.
You could even set a start shop fee, like 1k -> 5k to rid ppl from abusing it.

Yea, good idea, but i think it should be more like a booth idear, where you put up what you want to sell, and other people can check what others have posted. Could have a trade booth posting in most large towns. This way there's no lag- And you could check back in to see if someone's bought ur stuff and u can collect it. this way u wouldn't need to stay online. All problems fixed. (i think it was EQ or... FF online.. that did this before)

only a few points to pay attention to
For example Kalonline (for the people who know the game)
Take a look in the game @ temp fort and CoP.
It makes me crazy to search hours for a nice item
And lag in the city isn't something im waiting to happen.

Well.
I dont quite think that private shops would be the right thing to do..
But we should definitly have an auction house like WoW.
Now.. I really don't like WoW, but one thing that they have made well, is their auction house..
I have no idea why GW haven't made up a thing like that yet

I like the ideal, but would rather have an NPC for each class where you open a screen, add an item, tell them the price you want, and the NPC sales the item. To act as money sink have the NPC take a 7-10% commission.
And so that you are not looking through page after page of stuff, allow only perfects (9 Req. Max Damage, all mods max.) or rare skins (no blue or purple).
Make it so that the items stack with the lowest price shown first. Each person that adds an item will want his shown first so they list the item at a lower price.
If you had a chest for each account, I can just see an ocean of chest somewhere; no one is going to go around clicking on chest.

This is THE ideal trading system for me, way better than the current spamming and also better than an auction house. (Although private shops can of course coexist with an auction house)

This has been suggested and turned down many times. Dont be fricken Lazy thats all its about just stand there and Spam your WTS or WTB no one really minds. they turn off Trade and Public if they are in big areas for a short amount of time people who want to Buy or sell keep it on. Thats the way it has been thats the way it will stay.
Anet has alot more to do then waste time.

I like this idea. It would certainly help me a lot. I have so much junk for sale and hardly anyone looks on these forums and spamming WTS is so boring. haha I like this idea a lot. /signed

i find it too stupid, u have to walk to all of the shops to find the item(s) u need !? come on this is only used in the all free-to-play games.... yes the current trading is ever-lasting but these shops wont make much change imo
the only good and viable thing can be the Auction House
i want an AH , this the best trading supply which can be used !
