I don't see this happening with the current game. However we need more advanced in-game communication tool, not necessarily similar to Twitter though

I'm quite sure if you have anybody you know from reality following you on twitter, they wouldn't give two shits what you're doing in a game.

Not everyone tweets every 15 seconds...or even every hour. The point of it isn't always what you're doing. The people that followed me who liked Guild Wars actually did like some of the stuff I tweeted. It's more than a "what are you doing site" and anyone who's been on it knows that.

I am starting to like the twitter idea.
The way I see gw is that sometimes you just want to chat to friends in the game and other times you want to be playing, twitter seems ideal for this.
It could well remove a lot of the public chat presently seen in the game.
If its gone from gw itself then a lot of the banning for innapropriate chat will be out of anets hands because they wont see it.

I do NOT UNDERSTAND TWITTER. Seriously. But in other news, having not read the other 4 pages I hope i'm not repeating, but the issue was raised on the first page that there's a problem with slow computers alt-tabbing out of games.
Just run the game through something like Steam and you can shift-tab in game and it opens up the Steam UI through which you can use the internet without ever having to leave the game...

Shitter, like every other display-every-element-of-my-life-to-the-universe internet phenomenon needs to be dragged along with it's users into a burning pit of sulfur for eternity. Especially faecesbook.

No. Remember when MySpace was the hype? Then Bebo, Facebook and whatever else people collectively gather to like sheep? Twitter is the same. 2 years from now, you'll laugh and say "Twitter? I go to Fleeble now!"

I don't like the idea too much, but I've got nothing against it, and it's becoming popular with WoW's twitcraft:

Guild Wars is not an IM client...
Social Networking IS the disease that is killing the internet.
I like porn, surely I should be able to browse porn and watch pornographic videos IN Guild Wars? No?
I trade a lot and would find a calculator built into the game so damn useful...
I like... add it to the game...
No, RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO off and learn to alt-tab.
Seriously.
The only truly useful thing that could be integrated into Guild Wars is wiki access... and oh look, you can browse the wiki IN GAME via Xfire, or, you know... alt tab it.
As for the glib replies of "Oh, but you don't know how much effort it would take to have it implemented in game" clearly it would be TOO MUCH effort given the amount of shit that still needs fixing in the game, the incredibly HUGE amount of minor problems (armor clipping, floating rocks and other weirdness) that will NEVER be fixed, because they just don't have the time and resources. Oh, and skill balancing.
Really, no for GW1 and I hope the hell not for GW2.

hahaha silly suggestions!
Actually, How bout this? Download Steam for free and get a free account, it has a perfect browser built in and I have never had a problem with it.

Guildwars is a game client, not an internet browser.

While we're on the topic of software integration in GW, I'd like to see Ebay, and Kelly Blue Book in GW. I buy a lot of cars off Ebay, and it would be great to be able to just surf around different auctions, and check fair trade values on KBB while doing Underworld Speed Clears.

This whole thread makes no sense. If you don't use Twitter then how is having a Twitter integration going to affect you? Why say "no" to something that is obviously popular and used? While I know the purpose of many forum users is to try to appear as "above the fad" as possible in regards to the internet, ArenaNet would be smart to do this to drive sales of their product.
Quote:
According to company officials at Dell, its presence on Twitter has earned it more than $2 million in revenue. The Dell company blog explains, “Since we started back in 2007, we’ve not only earned more than $2 million in revenue from the @delloutlet on Twitter, but we are also seeing that it’s driving interest on new products as well.”
Officials at the company say, “There is a huge flow of people comming from @delloutlet on Twitter to the main website Dell.com/outlet site, and then ultimately deciding to purchase a new system from elsewhere on Dell.com, if we factor those new system purchases that come from @Delloutlet, we’ve actually eclipsed $3 million in overall sales.”
Dell outlet now has over 600,000 followers, that respond positively to the Twitter exclusive offers and deals. The below chart shows the growth over the last 3 months when they began to introduce more exclusive offers at that time Dell had only 11,000 followers on Twitter.

This would be a great marketing tool for ArenaNet. Hundreds to thousands of players daily sending message about their game via twitter. Though I know it's really hard for most players to get out of the "me" mentality, Twitter is a great advertising tool for businesses. Viral marketing.

I agree with Inde, however if they decided to use it AS a good marketing tool and the option to disable it for stuck-ups like myself, i better NOT see any trace of it in my game when i deselect the box that activates the twitter service in game.
Also the twitter in game = more memory usage yay!

I agree with you, however I don't see how an integrated GW interface would help matters. It would make for a long and drawn out process, not only in development time, but also is legal fees and negotiations to work out an agreement between the two companies for very little return or advantage.
The only people that would benefit from this are people who already use twitter, and already play Guild Wars. The reason why it worked for Dell is because they are advertising their services on Twitter. Not because Dell is now shipping all of their systems with a Twitter button on the front of their computers, nor an integrated, dedicated twitter screen on their desktops, which is equivalent to what this thread is proposing. I doubt that anyone here would question Arenanet advertising over twitter and taking advantage of a viral marketing campaign, but the integration of an ingame interface is a completely different matter.
The reason why people dislike this idea is not because they are trying to rise above a fad, it's because it's a worthless idea. It would take a long time for them to develop, while at best it's an option that might, might save 20 seconds, at the very most, from alt+tabbing to an internet browser. And if one checks and updates their twitter so often that it becomes that much of an ordeal, then they really are a demonstration of that stereotype that the supporters of this idea have been trying to get the rest of us to disavow. And it gets back to the original argument that Guild Wars is a game. Not an IM client, nor a web browser, nor an operating system. It is development resources that could be spent far better on other things that would make GW, as a game and not an operating system, better.

You're wrong on the legal front Operative, Twitter is very open to user created applications. ArenaNet would have no problem. Hence why World of Warcraft, Second Life, and others have it all ready and Twitter promotes these openly. Not to mention the literally hundreds of custom Twitter Apps that have been designed for every form of forum/myspace/website/blog/game/desktop/mobile and so forth that are out there.
And if you know anything about marketing you know that 20 seconds is huge. If any product makes something faster/more convenient/more accessible/more exposure then a company should jump on it. The payoff for doing something that costs nothing except man hours, but could result in sales and free advertising, is worth it.

I wouldn't mind having Twitter integrated into Guild Wars. It's not like as soon as Arena Net integrates it you're going to be bombarded by a million twitter posts related to Guild Wars. You only receive updates from the people your following and that's if you have a Twitter account.
