another poll with - 2 yes, 1 no - option... oh well...
anyways - /notsigned for the reason already said
1 build/class or whatever would dominate which would be pointless
also let me quote a bunch of ppl from other suggestion threads:

Is a good idea, but, this game is designed for team play. To make this well, maybe everybody should have the same build, like in Dragon Arena.
Anyway, a free for all mode, not just 4 players, I imagine +20 players in the same arena, will be, for sure, a lot of fun. // the syncing problem should be fixed first.
BTW, there are already a 1vs1 mode in this game, Heroes Battles. But it needs to be fixed to actually make people use different builds, and not just sins and monks with lame heroes builds.
Another idea coming to my mind is letting us to enter a free for all arena with at least one hero; that way it will be balanced.

FFA would lead to too much exploitation I think... i.e. People run around until everyone dies, then spikes the survivor. Don't think FFA would take enough pure skill to be a valid form of PvP.

You should name it then "patience arena".
1 Ranger with running build
2 Defy pain tank
3 whatever (including sf/55 etc)
4 you
Dishonourable points for leaving the area.
Have fun.

Fun takes precedence and if that sounds like fun to a lot of people, then why shouldn't we have such a PvP mode.
Who cares if players are too defensive, most likely the mode would count kills, so most players would have an all out offense pressure build.
If anything there should be more than 4 players, shrines to shift to other premade builds on the fly (similar to weapon pickup), and health packs lying around. At the low end of PvP, the more people use skills, the more they understand them. By stripping any barriers away, people would be able to get accustomed to a lot of skills in less time than suffering through small scale organized PvP.

One class will dominate the FFA Arena and I don't think Anet have the time for the arena. IMHO I think that RA is a FFA arena?
This is exactly what I said that one class will just ruin the whole point of playing in the arena

Use the Kilroy Punchout skills on a set bar (along with similar rules, max of 3 knockouts before respawn is disallowed).
Remove any armour bonuses/differences.
Give everyone a specific set of knuckles for the arena that are non modifiable.
Last man standing wins.

This would work if people could take the game a little less seriously.
I mean hell, look at how upset people get about RA.

This will not work because:
- How will annihilation game types be handled? Score count per kill? If so what determines who gets a point per kill? Whoever dealt the finishing blow or whoever did the most damage to a target?
- Certain attribute lines/professions will be completely useless. Paragons are one example. Monks will largely be useless as well.
- It would be dominated by build wars.
- I don't think there is any existing code for this type of thing anyway. So it's a mute suggestion because there is no way this is going to be introduced into Guild Wars.

I would slightly consider this if the arena permitted only one type of build per profession. Of course this would totally void the concept, but it's better than the mess it would cause otherwise.
As others have already said, GW isn't balance on a 1v1 basis.

the quick and easy fix: The ground is all lava, or there is constant degen to those who aren't attacking or using skills, or something like that (degen for those not within earshot of others? I dunno). It would encourage hectic offense, and it would punish anybody who was trying to run away. To add to the craziness (why not, we're already in deep), everyone could have an unstrippable +33% run speed so that people won't be particularily effective at fleeing anyway. Skills that slow opponents (or the crippled condition) would detract from the 133% run speed, so that skills that slow aren't useless there.

Um yeah, one problem guild wars is not (nor was it designed to be) balanced in a way that this would be conceivable.

This would be an all around bad idea.
After just one week, every single person there would be Assassin. Why? Becuase its designed to kill quickly. Why no other proffession? Monks will not be needed to heal, warriors/paragons will not be needed to absorb dammage for the sake of a team, ANY casting proffession would automatically become the first target, shooting at a target with a bow at long range is rendered useless when target can teleport right to you.
And once everyone is an assassin, one person will find a build that is "indestructable" and then it will spread to every single person. Basically, you wind up with 5 million people all with the exact same build. Atleast in RA and TA theres different proffessions show up for different needs, so theres atleast 3 or 4 seperate builds out of the 8 total people.

Haven't we had enough of this excuse? They are separate development teams. One has nothing to do with the other.

Yes if its set up like the dragon arena. Have like 15-20 players with: (1.) One Insta-Kill Skill (2.) Touch Skill Kd (3.) Speed Boost (4.)-(8.) Some other stuff (maybe a profession specific skill like the snowball arena). Then just let everyone run around and eat each other. The fattest fat kid wins. Sounds good to me.

Been suggested before.
Has been suggested with pre-made builds.
Guild Wars is based around team play.
