Very very cute idea.
How FUN would it be to have a grab bag/secret santa party?

Oh, and /signed with the designation that it says "Gift from" or "Gift to" or has a different color than Birthday or Holiday presents, or is otherwise distinguishable from ANet presents.

but they'd have to have a different icon or people will start scamming by pretending it is a birthday present (minipets)

Better be careful of scammers who would place a different item within a box then what you want to buy.
Like, you buy a present which the person said to have a Crystalline Sword in it, only to find a lump of charcoal.
Anyway, signed.

a great implementation for upcomming holidays, though it would be cool if it stayed around as something you can purchase from a merchant (gold sink)rather than merely festive collectable like those ghost in the box or candy cane.
Edit: many ideas can be used from these eg social games like placing items in presents, dropping them down on the ground in an instance and allow participants to choose one in a game of luck for example.
If i am not mistaken a current working system is used in the yahoo online game: Puzzle Pirates, you can even select colour and style of gift wrappers lol. I suppose we can dye ours.

As far as getting scammed by buying something that wasn't supposed to be in the present.... who in their right mind would buy a mystery present for any amount of gold and expect it to not be a scam? I mean seriously.
EDIT: The idea of dyeing the presents is awesome. Alot more useful than being able to dye bags.

Agreed, This is a good one. Have a gift wrapping service in the Guild Hall or town. Then give your gifted item to who ever you want and have them open it up. That really is a nice idea. and a Very good way to SEND items to Guild members through the system. Interesting possibilities this is....

<edit>
The more and more I think of this, It has HUGE potential. Gift wrapping service in GH.
Give the NPC the item, Pick a wrapper and dye it, and then add a TO: <Playername here> option.
Wam bam slam TY mam, that gift wrapped item appears in the TO Persons inventory using the same system as Anets Birthday present spawn script. If their inventory is full its is in the system until a spot opens up for delivery.
Like I said HUGE potential. Posibily the most innovative idea we have seen to date with Oh so many uses and functions.
