Impractical idea.
Besides, we already have GW 1.5. Two new chapters plus Eye of the North. Then too, GW got a graphics facelift back there a ways. PvE skills.
Playing since retail release of Prophecies, GW has dramatic additions and improvements, not to mention bug fixes. Holiday events. ANet has done quite a lot!
Sure, we would like to see remaining problems corrected. But at the cost of a further delay of GW2? I think not.

Wow, I don't think the OP has a clue how much work he/she is talking about. You can't just update the underlying engine. ANet would need to completely rebuild the game from scratch; even most of the artwork, sound effects and background music could not be reused.
In short, if you are going to rebuild a game. You might as well build a new game, more cost effective to say the least.

His complaint is fair for an MMO, though, if not for a normal game.

I would much rather have a new game with a new storyline than have them go back and spend two or three years rebuilding a game from scratch just have slightly better graphics and the ability to jump. I don't know about you, but being able to jump in GW1 would keep me entertained for about 5 minutes. I would just fall back into the routine of farming and doing all the normal things I do. If I wanted to go through the storyline again, I would do so regardless of how much prettier it looked this time.
I don't really see the point to this topic. :/

I think fixing up Guild Wars as a whole with bugs, balancing, and a few helpful features would be enough.

How could you not know that... take people from one project to work on another project what happens to the first project.

Actually, Guild War Original's version is over 28.0.
A bit too late for suggesting a 1.5 version.

I think that is build number and not version.
As for the OPs idea; no. It would take way to much time and resources to pull that off, and any SW engeneer/programmer can confirm you that.
