Default For PVE: use makeover credits to switch character models

I'd really, really like to have a crazy full-body-tattoo'd warrior.. but the only way to do that right now is to play a monk (or, to a lesser extent, a necromancer), and doing that I lose out on Strength.

If anet wanted to charge me $10 or $15 for this, I'd pay for it.

Please note: this is for PVE only. You could even add a condition that characters changed in this way were blocked from future PVP.

Will never happen, too much work and IMO it's a stupid idea.

Wha?

Are you saying you want the ability to have all armors available to all proffessions? Or are you saying you want to be able to have your warrior look like a monk/necro yet still be a warrior? I must say, I am a bit confused.

Thats what hes saying.

Tbh, I really don't care what happens in PvE, and I don't dismiss suggestions on the basis that Anet won't do it due to work etc. Just wouldn't want it in PvP, it might get a little confusing.

Throws balance out the window for PvP. If you use visuals for reference (which the good players do) then a Warrior that looks like a Monk will cause problems on who to avoid and who to attack. Since PvE characters have access to all PvP formats, this would make your idea impossible to keep the balance stable (don't bring up balance issues outside of character visuals; skills, etc. are not being discusses here). And I guarantee Anet won't restrict any character from any form of PvP simply because of an option to look a certain way. This means they won't ever allow you to look different than you should.

Hell, we could argue all kinds of options that aren't available for character models. "I want to be naked when I take my armor off, not wear underwear!" - "I want to have chains and leather straps with nipple piercingins!" - "I want to look like Little Red Riding Hood or Snow White."

Deal with what you have, it suits the game. If you don't like the way the game was made, find something new to play..... or get Texmod and have fun.

In that case, no, can't say I'd want that. I like the separation of armor between classes, gives you some incentive to try out other professions.

If all you want is the look/experience, go ahead and roll that monk and learn to hammersmite. It's a total blast to play, and you might be surprised at how effective it is.

But as far as a suggestion for changing armors goes, I have to agree with the majority of replies to date and give it a thumbs down for the same reasons already given. Additionally, I don't care much for the whole PvP/PvE dichotomy, and this would only serve to widen it.

As much as it's a silly idea..it's not THAT hard. Your character serverside, is probably just a line of code, in that code I'm willing to bet theres a certain model ID associated with it. Changing it would be very easy, just like changing your character to a different gender.

I say go for it.

To the people who will whine about PvP imbalance: come now, you can just click on the enemy to see what class they are.

@Regala: You have my interest. Tell me, what is this hammersmite you speak of, and do you have a build code you could post here?

Apparently you aren't aware of something called 'watching the field'. A Monk sitting in the back will need to be aware of what is happening on the battlefield. This way he knows a warrior is charging towards his caster and can protect them with something like Guardian. Or you will see a spell animation from someone casting a spell you need/want to interrupt as a Ranger. When you have to select a player to determine what class they are, this slows you down from making those skill decisions effectively.

So when you see a Monk charging at your caster, you'll ignore it and concentrate on other people. However, if that Monk was actually a warrior with a different model/armor, you'd make a mistake.

I'm going to figure something's up. Particularly if he's carrying weapons and, you know, I already took a cursory glance through the enemy team.

I'll see his name, and identify him as the warrior because I tabbed through the enemy team once they got in visual range. Don't you do that? Tab through the team, so you can see their names and identify them in the field that way?

Monks carry weapon and shield sets...

For reasons previously stated, /notsigned.

I love the way some threads go like Chinese whispers.

The OP wants more variation in the way their character looks.
Tattoos are one way to do this and an easy way of visualising it is to mention the monk and necro tattoo armour.

At no point did he say he wanted it to use in pvp and confuse players, in fact he specifically said it was for pve only and should be blocked for pvp.

Now your all moaning that it will cause confusion in pvp if it does then tough learn to live with it.

Hm... an elementalist looking like a warrior...

Hm... I'd rather not have that. Not even in PvE.

The problem is that PvE characters have complete access to PvP. This means that if it was PvE only, the PvP players would have no access to these new looks. Worse, if they made the new looks (tattooes, scars, whatever) universal like the common armor (Chaos Gloves, Blindfold, etc.) they would allow people to look like a different class or no class. Look at the Dervish armor, and how many of the variations show the stomach, legs, arms, chest, etc.? Most Dervish armor covers almost all the body. If you alter this in any way for the new tattoos you make them stop looking like Dervishes. This is true for most classes and their armor in some way.

Basically, the OP seems to want a new armor type that is common to all classes. The only way they could implement something like this is to create a new model at creation for each class - which will take a LOT of time and work, or to implement new armor for all 10 classes. New armor would allow them to make each variation on the same idea different enough that you could tell what class it was by sight.

It might be cool, but it would be a lot of work to make it fit in with the current game mechanics and balance.

No, he wants his Warrior to look like a Monk so he can wear Tattoo armor.
