New concept? I don't think you realize how many times this has been asked for. I get sick of hearing people asking to be able to jump. And jumping/swimming is nowhere close to a new concept.
But new or old, I don't think it is needed, nor do I think it would be possible. The game was designed without it available, and putting it in would require a complete overhaul of the entire game. Engine, graphics, skill balance, etc.
If you want to jump, load up a platform and play Mario or move to WoW. GW2 will have it, as it has already been stated, so wait for that if you want it so bad. If your friends can't see what the game offers without jumping/swimming, they don't want this kind of game anyway.

It's not called freedom, it's called a z-axis.
There are a zillion games out there who have this so called freedom you seek.
WoW. Perfect World. 2Moons. Silkroad Online. Runescape (?? Might be mistaken, haven't played this game since it's very very very early years.)
Or, you can just wait for GW2.
It'll have a lot of "freedom", methinks.
As much as I adore jumping and swimming, I admire GW for being different. I'm frustrated that a small puddle or a twig and leaf block my path, but at least GW1 didn't follow the beaten path.
Although they'll be following it more-so in GW2... I highly doubt it'll be the generic, "Jump over the rock to continue." "Swim through the pond to find a pearl."
I'm confident that they'll put their own twist upon it, despite what the naysayers think.

As mentioned in the other zaxis threads, there would be too many problems with the scenery if a zaxis was implemented in GW. I'm still not warm to the idea in GW2 because there is no point to it other than make it "more realistic"...because warriors in heavy armor can bunny jump everywhere!

Unable to implement this freedom in GW. Will come to us in the form of GW2.
