Would you still play GW1 if.....
The idea of jumping, swimming, flying, etc, really holds little interest to me and just gives me more buttons i need to mash. YAWN. But a few of us were talking about this today and were wondering...
How many of you would still keep playing GW1 if all that was ever introduced to the game, for ever more, were just new areas to explore, continents, dungeons, etc, and new weapon skins, armour skins, and maybe new crafting materials for those skins? No new classes, no new skills. Would that have kept you playing this game without the need for a GW2?

It wouldn't because the game's engine doesn't really support a z-axis.

I would.
Don't get me wrong, I am sincerely looking forward to GW2. However I would have a lot of fun with another EotN that gave me another campaign without the extras (like new professions or skills) that would make for more work in the future. GW1 doesn't really show it's age that much, and I would love to take yet another romp with my own characters in the world of present day Tyria.

It makes no difference to me. I enjoy the game the way it is. Personally I don't really want jumping, just more buttons to worry about.

GW1 holds a sentimental value from all those years of playing and enjoyign it, I'll keep playing even after GW2 comes out. Just because you can jump, possibly even swim and maybe climb and god knows what else in GW2, holds no valid reason to just stop playing GW1.

(I don't see why this thread starts with jumping when the discussion is about skills and classes!?)
The problem is that some of the stuff added is really fun, some is really broken and some is really fun AND broken at the same time.
So the question is if the loss of the new fun things could be negated by the fun of old things and the lack of the trash that the new additions spawned? For instance, the game would be much slower since parties could never output the damage we can now, meaning shutdown could actually still play a role thus making my favourite class pre-Factions, mesmer, still do his job! HM would also probably be never incorporated in this way nor would the bigger, faster, stronger foes that keep popping up everywhere. My guess is that HM would be more like NM Gwen with emphasis on better builds than the crap we see now.
At the same time - the speed of kills one can achieve with a Splintered Assassin is obscenely fun! Spirit Spamming is sweet! The new skills for the core classes - stuff like Mind Blast or the sweetest mesmer elite - Assassin's Promise - did make for some sweet play!
So it is a bit tricky.
But I am guessing the new additions outweigh the crap that was also added, so I am going with "I probably wouldn't be playing".

They could add anything they liked to give me more game play because for me gw1 is drawing to a close.
I have had 4 very good years and am still playing, firstly because I still enjoy it and secondly because at the moment I see nothing else to replace it.
So yes by all means add anything you like I will still play until gw2 arrives then I am gone probably for good, unless even more radical changes draw me back.
There simply won't be enough time in a day to play both games and if gw2 proves awful I will be searching for a new game anyway.
From the point of view of a new player I wouldn't want the game ruined but for me anything that proves interesting even in the short term is good.

There are a million games with a z-axis, all of them are worst than GW1.

I'm still playing after almost 4 years. This game has been and remains one of the best games I have ever played. Yes, I would love new content. But I don't require it. The small things that the Live Team are adding keep my sense of anticipation alive.

We don't need new armors or crafting materials, we certainly don't need more skills or professions, and we don't need new areas. ANet can make better use of some areas by adjusting or changing mobs.
I don't see "skill balances" in there though, and I would definitely be upset if ANet stopped giving us timely skill balances.
oh, wait.

I`d stick to GW1 if there were new areas, bosses, dungeons, etc. I mean, we all like NEW stuff, so whether it is named gw1 or gw2 i don`t care as long as there are new things to do, new bosses and areas to beat, etc..

I don't care about jumping, swimming, etc. Would be handy in vqing when you have to cross half the map just to get up to an area where you can see some baddies but can't reach them though. :P
Overall, I like the game as it is and still play it after years.

In 2013, OP will post a thread on GW2Guru asking: "Would you have kept playing GW1 if they just added more areas to it, and skipped GW2 with its jumping and swimming etc?"
And people will say that GW1 was horrible for not having a z-axis.
As for myself, yes I'd go on playing if they just added new areas. And fixed the skills. Who needs jumping anyway.
